I know some of you folks watch lost so here my theory of HIM.

1) Mysterious DHAMRA seems to be able to make all sorts of weird products from noodles to medicine.

2) Others are obsessed with Good and Evil and they are trying to or already did make a list of the people on the island

3) The Others are scared to death of HIM to the extent that they would endure endless torture instead of talking.

The Island has some kinda barrier which makes it invisible/undetectable to the outside world

5) The north pole will melt in a hundred years or less

Conclusion,
The Others are in fact elves from the north pole sent by Santa to prepare the island for Santa's new factory. HIM = Santa.

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History

"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini

I stopped watching that show after the first two episodes. Twin Peaks was the same. It looked like a great mystery at first but degraded into soaps style of revealing something new on each show but never getting to any kind of cohesion or resolving any of the newly revealed mysteries in some kind of real story.

IOW, I think they just make it up as they go and there's no real story with an ending there.
