Well, I suppose it's about time to review and "score" the predictions we made for 2006.

It seems that my predictive ability is 100% accurate, while my wife went zero-for-four.

Please check your own predictions, though I may get industrious and do a bunch of checking later.

Not too shabby, especally for me: 30%. In fact very good, as a fair number of my 40 entries were just me being a smart-ass.

But I really did think that Fred Phelps would go tits-up. Oh well, maybe next time....

That was just wishful thinking. However, according to The Sectret, maybe if we all think that, maybe it will become true this year.

I got the big gooseegg. Though a couple were half right (Tom Delay was found guilty and the Colts won the Super Bowl).

Well, if this counts;
quote:
Donald Rumsfield will once again tender his resignation as secretary of defense. And again, Bush will not accept his resignation. Later that night in a bar, Rummy, in a drunken stupor will lament to the bar tender, “What's a guy got to do? Crap, I have tried everything short of shooting the stinking troops myself…”

I was approximately 7.142857142857% correct, if we allow for the fact that my prediction was only half right. I'll take it because like filthy I was just being a smart ass in my predictions. Of course, in the smart assed predictions department turning out to be correct, filthy trounced me…

Ah well. I still have high hopes for 2007!

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

25%.

That 3.5/14.

I hit on Iraq, Cheney making ominous rumbles/democrats pointing out incompetence/Clinton blaming, Howard Dean making a stupid statement, and Democrats taking control of Congress. Scored half on that one because it wasn't due to Tom Delay being convicted.

2006 predictions from HM and beskep

Here are my psychic predictions for 06:

.75 - 1) The Bird flu will spread to birds in Europe and Africa and shortly thereafter to the Americas. It will be more from smuggling exotic birds than wild bird migration. Correct for Europe and Africa, wrong on the Americas; correct on smuggling vs migrating birds though fighting cocks and domestic poultry accounted for more cases than exotic birds.

1.0 - 2) Human cases will rise sporadically for many months. Then there will be a few isolated outbreaks of human to human transmission.

1.0 - 3) A major pandemic will not occur until 2007 but it will happen sometime that year. correct for 06; 07 prediction pending

.25 - 4) There will be at least 3 mag 7 earthquakes that will affect populated areas including one more large tsunami generating quake in the area south or north of the 12-26-04 big one. While people will remember to run uphill when the tide goes out in a strange way, thousands will still be killed including some tourists who walk out to see the funny low tide or who walk out there thinking they have time to outrun the incoming wave. Only a few people will remember there is more than one wave coming and that will result in many deaths. Too much tsunami details wrong, 3 or more mag 7s was correct.

.75 - 5) The Iraq war will be unchanged in 2006. Bush will move a few troops around in an effort to appear to be withdrawing, but it will just be for show. The insurgency in Afghanistan will increase. Spying on US citizens will continue and it will be revealed that the target the FISA court was not informed of was reporters who received the leaks about the CIA torturing prisoners in other countries. Protest by the American public will be minimal. Everything except the FISA court revelations. That'll likely be secret a lot longer.

.33 - 6)It will be another record year for hurricanes and cyclones. New Orleans will not take a direct hit but will not have recovered by the end of 06 either. The levies will not be adequately rebuilt and will again fail though my psychic information is fuzzy as to when. 1 out of 3

1.0 - 7) More houses will burn in wildfires in both the USA and in Australia. There were a few in the US I believe.

.50 - 8) The magnetic poles will move even more erratically but it will not affect any travelers since GPS and the European satellite will be the means of navigation for everyone anyway. We won't have weird auroras and big solar flares in 06 but we might see weird effects of the shifting magnetic poles and solar flares by 2010.I guess "moving erratically" was too ill defined, exceptional auroras/flares were nil, there was one really big flare but not Earth directed.

0.0 - 9) Bangladesh will flood.

0.0 - 10) My book will be released soon. You can order an advanced copy at your local bookstore. I guess a TAM paper doesn't count as a book.

56% Not so good, I'll do more checking and see if there's any fudge room.

Well, I was 100% accurate, predicting such things as Britney Spears meltdown, complete with shaved head. I also correctly predicted Anna Nicole's death, Martin Scorsese's Oscar win, and North Korea's successful nuclear test.

Ok, so I didn't predict any of those things. But to be a "successful" psychic, all you need to do is lie. The true rubes never go back and check up on you anyway.

I call that 2/4 right, not 1/3 right. Really four predictions. Record year and levies failing: wrong. No direct hit, and levies unrepaired: right.
