I stumbled across a US Navy message a couple months ago. It appears that Chaplains are getting trained to proselytize to the nonreligious. Am I reading this correctly? Link

Here is the part that concerns me:
3. The subsequent 3 day Professional Development Training Course (PDTC) will address A Strategy for the Delivery of Religious Ministry to Nones, Dones, and Millennials. The goal of the training is to provide chaplains and RPs with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to deliver meaningful religious ministry to those who express no religious preference, or antagonism towards religion and those who are characterized as the millennial generation.
I suppose there could be a less sinister interpretation of "meaningful religious ministry."

Section six has a link to "required read-ahead material" for the PDTC you're concerned about, but the link is so a-swarm with improper security certificates and other problems that Firefox is really quite adamant that I not follow up.

Pure speculation: even the "Nones" may have religious questions. Perhaps an atheist is interested in a fundamentalist (perhaps they share a passion for crochet), and wants to know how (or if) she can treat her prospective partner's religious views with respect while maintaining her honest, "out" atheism? I (for one) have no problem with a Navy Chaplain trying to counsel the atheist on such a question, so long as the Chaplain doesn't say "you could convert" in anything but jest.

Relating to when I was active, seeking professional psychological assistance was frowned upon and adversely impacted a service members fitreps.

Could this be offering counseling to non religious members of the military through the Chaplains Office?

Fortunately, this stigma has been systematically eradicated, I suspect due to the prevalence of depression, PTSD, and similar issues. If, for example, I were to seek professional help it would have no adverse affect on my career.

That is probably it, as Dave also pointed out. Perhaps I am too ready to assume the worst about the Chaplain Corps...?

Thanks, missed everyone here.

Good to hear someone finally got their head out of their backside. I'd hate to have been the SAR team leader on that one.

The Group Chaplain was a Protestant and not too overtly religious. I guess I got lucky on that score.
