A county north of New York City has banned unvaccinated minors from public places, "including shopping malls, civic centers, schools, restaurants and even houses of worship." For 30 days, purposefully to coincide with the holy days coming up. A county executive says that cops will not be checking everyone's immunizations records, but suggests that flaunting the ban may get the parents of unvaccinated kids up to six months in jail.

The same article says that other places are seriously considering the legality of vaccinating kids without their parents' consent.

Good news! I love the idea of these counties taking more aggressive tactics to protect the health of the people who live there.

I'm for small cards being handed out by doctors or pharmacies after vaccinations as proof. Seems a simple enough way to verify.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

I think I still have the little book (about 2x3 inches) that was my childhood vaccination record. We'd take it with us to the doctor every time I had a check-up. If he gave me another vaccination, he'd write it in the book, and initial that entry. If it was a new doctor, he'd sign and initial the last page, so anyone could tell whose initials were whose.

I'm sure they also noted the vaccinations in the files they kept, so the little book was not only a back-up of the doctor's files, but an easily transportable "data dump" if we happened to move to a different town.

But in the book, there were pages for those once- or twice-a-lifetime vaccines, and also specific pages to record the date of regular tetanus or flu vaccines (for example). Pretty efficient.

I recall having an approx. 2" x 3" yellow booklet with vaccinations listed in it. I had to get it when I was 11 and have my doctor fill it out in order to go on a group trip to the UK. The critical part for UK travel was proof of smallpox vaccination. I did not get an MMR vaccination because I got the diseases before the vaccinations existed. In fact measles vaccine became available a couple of months after I was nearly hospitalized for high fever due to measles.

You're dating yourself, tw. I'm too young to have been vaccinated against smallpox, and I definitely got at least one measles vaccination.

Cleaned out three more spammers. Turns out the original poster in this thread just waited four months to spam a photography business. Unless it's our old pal Dennis, I don't think I'm going to save the spammers' comments any longer.

Massive study from Denmark again shows no link between the MMR vaccine and autism. Their results even suggest that getting the vaccine might make girls less likely to become autistic.

More than half-a-million children is not an insignificant amount of statistical material. Nice.
