I'd have put this one in humor, if Carl Wieland weren't so serious about it.

quote:
Today, the various species of Anolis lizard on Puerto Rico include ones small enough to forage for insects at the ends of branches, also a greenish variety better able to hide in the leaves, and a brownish version well camouflaged on tree trunks and the ground. Just as for Darwin's finches, it can reasonably be inferred (and creationists could agree) that all the present-day species descended from an original species (possibly only one pair) invading the island.

Doesn't this rocket scientist know that most if not all anoles have the chameleon-like ability to change color, from green to brown?

Yeesh!

f, I really don't think he cares. It doesn't fit in with his case. These guys aren't going to start worrying about the truth, now. Who was it? Calvin? Luther? I can't remember who suggested that a little lie is alright, as long as it advances the case for the Almighty. I guess the Almighty isn't mighty enough to prove His own case.

But a little good hearted bitchin' can make us feel better...

Yeh, yer right, I suppose.

I was slightly astonished that he ignored such a very simple and commonly known fact, one that makes this genus of lizard rather unique. I am less astonished now. It would have badly bent the crutch his article limps along on.

The statment at the bottom that says to the effect that lizards ignore the ToE is also pretty amazing. It makes me want to ask, "How so?" and say things like, "Will you share your smokin's with me? I too, would like to hallucinate." The evolution of lizards is a fascinating study.

Of course, it must be remembered that AiG preachs mostly to believers who don't care much about fact.

Ah well.

This might shed some light on the subject:

"A little jargon is all that is necessary to impose upon the people. The less they comprehend, the more they admire. Our forefathers and doctors have often said, not what they thought, but what circumstances and necessity dictated.
Gregory of Nanzianus (in a letter to St. Jerome)

"It will sometimes be necessary to use falsehood for the benifit of those who need such a mode of treatment."
Eusebias of Nicomedia

"At times one is obliged in concience to veil the truth, for there are secrets to be guarded and detractions to be avoided. Sometimes silence will not suffice to maintain the secret which one is trying to guard. In fact, it may happen that silence would betray the secret. Hence there must be some licit means of concealing the truth when necessary. This licit means is the broad mental reservation...One way of putting the question is to ask if a false statement is always a lie. Some theologians answer in the negative...Sometimes it is necessary to make a false statement in order to conceal secret knowledge. Silence or the use of mental reservation is not sufficient; The only way to protect the secret is to make a statement contrary to what...you know to be true."
