All of your good buddies from the SFN (myself included) will join you in the fiery furnace for some good conversation.

I am reminded of:

Edmund Blackadder: Well, well, let's take Hell: You know, Hell isn't as bad as it's
cracked up to be.

Graveney: What?

Edmund: No, no, no, no. No, you see, the thing about Heaven, is
that Heaven is for people who like the sort of things that go
on in Heaven, like, uh, well, singing, talking to God, watering pot
plants...

Graveney: Ew...

Edmund: Whereas Hell, on the other hand, is for people who like the other
sorts of things: adultery, pillage, torture -- those areas.

Graveney: Really?

Edmund: Mm! Give your lands to the Crown, and once you're dead, you'll
have the time of your life!

Graveney: Adultery? Pillage? Through all eternity?

Edmund: Yep!

William: (???) large sticks against your tender portions!

(Percy beats William over the head with a large Bible; Baldrick kicks him and
beats him with the crucifix.)

King: (handing over a quill) Lord Graveney, your decision...

Graveney: Very well. (signs) I leave my lands to the Crown, and my soul in
the hands of the Lord. May He treat me like the piece of refuse
that I am (rubs his hands together, grinning) and send me to Hell.
(???)

King: Amen.

Edmund: Amen. You're a very lucky man! I wish I could be coming with you, but,
you know, being the Archbishop...

Graveney: I'm so sorry.

Edmund: Oh no, that's alright.

Graveney: (sits up, points) Aaahhh! (everyone looks where he points; he dies)

Want to see the worst of it? JW is back, and this time he brands Rosen as "An arrogant PhD physicist, a ?mainstream? physicist, a U.S. government physicist, and a crackpot" in one place, and an insane liar in another.

Geeeeeesh

I wish I wanted gone looking for that thread... dammitt.

Now I want to jump in and help Rosen.

Sorry Rosen, I'm staying away from JW. The guy infuriates me worse then Piper, believe it or not.

quote:
JW:
Now you are beginning to ramble and rave in a paranoid way, and this is way off topic, and I?ll not respond to your crazy deliriums. You are quoting TV documentaries about the Indians, and you?ve never been to Latin America to see all the millions and millions of Indians down there right now, including millions of Mayans. And your ancestors, unlike mine, were too elite to marry any of them. You are just plain nuts and you should retire before you do our government serious damage.

Young people, watch out for guys like this. This one works for our government.

-------------

Note to BA: This is the type of ?elitist? I?m talking about: An arrogant PhD physicist, a ?mainstream? physicist, a U.S. government physicist, and a crackpot who tries to deceive people who aren?t familiar with our debates of last year. I have to waste a lot of time explaining how this guy lies, and he is about as ?mainstream? as any professional scientist can be. Get these kinds out of science, and science will be a lot better off.

Hey, Nenya has her PA guestbook up and running. So far, only two have signed in besides Nenya, but I have a feeling her guestbook will grow.

Well, unwisely, I just jumped feet first in the Rosen-JW argument...

JW is a twerp. Piper's insane.

That's the last thing kids need to see posted about scientist. Needless to say - I'm keeping Caity away until piper and jw dissipate again.

Being a former Baptist, i can say this with some authority;

A good, clean living Pagan died and went to Heaven.
St Peter met him at the door.
"You can't come in here," Peter said.
The Pagan asked why.
"You're Pagan... sorry. But Hell isn't so bad. Your friends are there, and they say it's cool."
The Pagan is depressed but goes anyway, because he was, well, Pagan. So he goes to Hell and is greeted by a beautiful green field with people picnicking and having a great time. A man in a white comes over to him and presents himself as Satan, and the Devil tells him of all the delights in what appears to be a 5 star resort.
"Wow!" thinks the Pagan. "Hell ain't so bad! I'm happy to be here."
Suddenly, the sky gets black and fire spews from the ground. A screaming, flaming man falls from the sky, and is swallowed by a crack in the earth.
After he disappears, everything returns to normal.
"What in hell was that?!" the Pagan asks Satan.
Satan replies, "Oh that was a Baptist. They wouldn't have Hell any other way."

Good idea. Unfortunately, it's going to take a while for all the Piper threads to disappear off the bottom of the board. Has Caity read of of Piper's stuff at all? Megan thinks he's a hoot. A novelty. Like one of those dogs whose owners has taught it to say "Rii wruuvv wrooo".

I agree with you regarding JW; his brand of lunacy is much more subtle, and less easily seen as self-parody.

Piper, however, might be a good case study in aberrant thinking behavior.

JW is definetly more dangerous in my opinion. Piper is obviously nuts.

It's close to the bottom but he answered my post about putting schrodingers cat in a glass box.

I had a long response written and decided not to send it. He's so damn clueless. Arguing the details of a dang thought experiment...

I'm sorry, but putting schrodinger's cat in a glass box is about the stupidest, funniest thing I have ever heard. :)

Just read BA's bit about deleting the Cat Thread. Something about insults? What happened?
I missed the whole thing. Playing Diablo II instead.

I missed the cat thread too.

Um, Caity is a little hothead (kinda like her mom only more reserved). She gets real testy with people like Piper. Guess it has to do with the moon hoax fight at school.

JW, she actually finds kinda sad and pathetic.

JW was starting to get nasty, saying scientists created zycon-b, and v-2 bombs and what not, but I didn't really see anything bad enough to delete.

I hope it wasn't me. HE got my dander up, but I took the day off from reading the post and now I think it was funny. (zycon-b was an INSECTICIDE) Also wanted to see JW's answer for my question of who started the Spanish-american war. :)

Well I may get my ass in a sling with you guys, but some pretty big guns in physics are also impatient with Schrodinger's famous kitty. Stephen Hawking was quoted by Murray Gell-Mann as saying, "Whenever someone mentions Schrodinger's cat I reach for my gun", and Gell-Mann himself lamented the "reams of paper wasted" on discussion of the alive-dead state of the cat. (The Quark and the Jaguar, Murray Gell-Mann)

Rift, I know you know what they're saying--the cat is a quasiclassical object and cannot exist in a state of quantum superposition. For that matter, neither can the vial of cyanide nor the Geiger counter.
In reality the quantum wave function collapsed, or the histories decohered, as soon as the particle emitted by radioactive decay triggered a macroscopic event in the detector. But with idiots like Capra (The Tao of Physics) spouting such utter balderdash about the mystery of quantum mechanics it's no wonder some people get confused. You know, and I know, that the Cat is just an analogy for something we usually can't see (I suppose we can 'see' it in a Bose-Einstein condensate?).

I got the impression while following that now deceased thread that most of the people were describing the same thing from opposite ends, like blind men feeling the trunk and tail of the elephant. Aw, heck, it's done with for now. Let's bring up crossed polarizing filters next time, I always thought that was a much better quantum puzzler than that darned cat.

I musta missed the bad stuff. Last I saw was JW firmly entrenched in what has been his usual "I don't understand it so it must be wrong" mindset (although I gotta admit that he's been a little better lately...is he mellowing? or am I just getting more used to it?)

BTW, please make certain you read Rift's post regarding an imminent Pipesqueak onslaught.
