Snake, the public is untimatly to blame every time. We fail to pay attention and even when Enron-style corruption, or the falsehoods that got us into the Iraq disaster, are brought forth, there is no outrage.
I find the election in Spain particularly interesting in that something like 76% of Spainards got off their collective ass and made it to the polls. That's the public paying attention and taking an intrest in the welfare of their country. I would croak a happy man if, just once, I'd see a turn-out like theirs, here.
It is what polititions fear the most, you know: an electorate that is willing to inform itself and put the nation ahead of any party affilations. They fear it because it would toss out the status quo, opening the door of uncertainity, as folk of all faiths, beliefs, political idiology, and even those of us with none other than the secular, chose the leaders of our country. And third parties would become something other than sideline noise.
If there had been a 70+% turnout here in 2,000, would the current adminstration be in DC, or back in TX wondering what hit them?

These people are so far to the right that middle of the road Democrats like Kucinich and Nader seem like they're on the left.
I heard what those democrats said in that 1st debate. Frightening! Robin Hood might be a glamorous hero in a novel but stealing taking from the rich to give to the poor is as much thievery as you think is criminal with the republicans. Gorgo we will never agree on our political philosophies. I too, in my younger years, was a socicalist. Even went so far as to look up the Fabian society when I was in England. I understand what you think, but IMO now it's not the best system for a free society. |

I think you're right. Education is important. Judging from the PR on both sides so far, it appears that John Kerry has read "The Federalist Papers" whereas George W. Bush has not. |
Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Bush makes me nostalgic for fucking Nixon!
For Nixon's relection, I wrote in Mickey Mouse. Reason was that McGovern failed to stand by Eagleton when his hitch in rehab was brought forth. To me, that is a form of desertion, and I couldn't, in conscience, vote for either.
But, I was younger then as were we all. If I had it to do over again, I'd have swallowed my revulsion and done my small part to get rid of Tricky Dick.
Education is worthless unless it is desired. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him pump it up to the house. I think that what it is, we are no longer hungry enough. We have a status quo of sorts and we think that it will go on forever. We think that there will be a few, moderate bad times, then it will all come back to Fat City. We think that we are God's Chosen.
I think that we are full of shit and a return to Fat City is now a long way off, even if, in the unlikely event, that we start paying attention to what our leaders are really doing beyond their retoric.
Oh hell, a pox upon all things political. It's late, I'm half drunk, and I'm going to bed.

The corporate media and the schools and churches indoctrinate as much as they educate. |

Huh? How can anyone take from someone who has nothing? Perhaps you mean, the 'rich', are holding them back by not encouraging them to persue a quality education. |

Ok, Filthy. Let's try to make some sense of your drunken stupper. 1st, I agree with you. Politics is shit. And I'm not even drunk. And I also believe that we don't pay enough attention to what they are doing. Just when an issue is in the news does it become some kind of conteversy. But how many other things do we, the public, not know about that they are doing IMO, underhandedly. And while I do agree with you that an unwanted education is worthless, I meant that we should get students at a very young age before they loose interest. We should make learning imaginative, fun and diciplined. Our society would be 'hungry enough' if there was an incentive. And until drugs are legal and no talent pop idles are illegal we will have, as you say..."status quo". |
