Some Democrats who signed up to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak here Saturday were refused tickets unless they signed a pledge to endorse President Bush.

The details of the article are frightening. Democrats attending had to turn over their drivers license and give out other information. Can you say abuse of power and intimidation?

Pretty much typical for a charnal pit of an administration led by a paranoid sociopath and a scumbag of a war profeteer. Hopefully, they'll soon be taken out of the White House, preferably in restraints and led to a paddy wagon, and we can start the reconstruction of our country.

I do hope that Kerry and Edwards don't travel on small aircraft.

Should that be "propheteer" (as in prophet) or "profiteer"? Looks like a freudian slip/mix with an exceptionally good hit...

An NPR reporter mentioned, this morning, as an aside to another story, that pretty much all of Bush's public appearances of late have had ticket-seekers screened to ensure that only Bush supporters get in.

I can't imagine how they would do that. Would it be like:

"Are you a supporter of Bush"
"Yes"
"Ok, go in"

"Are you a supporter of Bush"
"No"
"Go away"

I mean, there isn't anything else they can do right? Doesn't seem to fail safe....

If I, Whatever-Powers-That-Might-Be forbid, were running for high office, I would welcome folk of the opposit persuation with open arms. Damn straight, I would! You can't convince 'em if you don't talk to 'em, now can you?

Here's something from The Rude Pundit on the subject:

http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/

Again, I am looking forward to the GOP convention, if only to see if they are really as stupid as this suggests. At this point, I am not convincable, just curious. I want to see Bush & Co. with their wagons circle-jerked.

Ah, conspiracies. Do you think we'll ever know the difference?

I think I'm just going to vote for Nader this election.

Are you willing to make the same mistake that so many made during the 2000 election? In my view, there are really only 2 possible choices, that is, two candidates who have more than 1% chance of getting into the White House. And one of them is Bush. Makes my selection really easy.

I don't think Nadar's going to be much of a factor in this election -- certainly not like in 2,000. Too many former supporters are disgusted with him. Indeed, from what I've been reading most of his support, and not a little money, is coming from Republicians. For obvious reasons. He may end up on the ballot, but will be regulated the the status of other, third-party candidates such as the immortal Lyndon LaRouch.

It's sad, really, to see one of our great advocates become little more than an embaressment.
