Bush showed us yet a third face. For the most part, he was calm and pretty much articulate. He did pretty well, certainly better than his previous performances, I thought.

I tentivly give it to Kerry on points, mainly because Bush was mostly doing hie broken record routine. Further, I thought there was entirely too much time wasted on religion, which simply gave both the opportunity to mouth platitudes.

However, I will not say for sure until Ive read the transcript.

In my scoring, every time a politician resorts to calling people names like 'liberal' or 'conservative' I've got to hit 'em hard--Real Hard! It's about issues and policies, Dubya--Issues and policies!

However, I've noticed several times in the after-debate-spin that several journalists and regular folks scored Bush high on education. What the hell's that all about? I mean, how can they give Bush a higher score. His plan is exactly the same as Kerry's, but do less, and pay less when it comes to the No Child Left Behind program. Plus, Dubya was a little more misleading about Pell grants than Kerry was.

I guess they gotta give it to the pres just for having the balls to show up...

"We got an issue in America. Too many good docs are gettin' out of business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their -- their love with women all across this country." Dubya in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, 9/6/2004

I thought the moderation was poor and the questions soft. As debates go, it wasn't all that great.

For some reason, Bush looked smug. It was almost as if he knew in advance what the questions would be -- a statment I'm not making. And compared to his previous performances, he did very well.

If I'd known it would be as dull as it was, I'd have shined it on and read about it in the morning.

Overall, Bush again revealed he does not have a grasp on the real world. Kerry does, so I give "Debate III" to Kerry.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Just saw the debate on the dutch channels. I must say, Bush did come over a lot better than in the first debate (I missed the second). I did think Kerry gave more direct answers to the questions and was moderately annoyed by Bush smashing his stand every time. But that might just be my dutch bias. Overall, I'd say Kerry came out on top, although Bush wasn't far behind.

There were no questions about the enviornment nor about energy policy.

Bush got righteously caught in at least one whacker of a lie. It was when rebuting Kerry's remark about how he'd said, some months ago, that Osama was no longer something he was worried about. Bush said, to the effect that he didn't recall making that remark. That 'remark' was all over the news the day he said it, and I for one was aghast at the statement.

I wonder if they cranked up Bush's meds for this one, he was that much calmer. And I noticed that the left side of his face seemed to droop a bit. Did anyone else see it, or are my eyes getting worse?

Kerry had a few stumbles but nothing serious. However, I think that his remark about Mary Cheney, while not at all degrading, was a mistake that will come back to bite him.

If the questions hadn't been such cream-puffs, Kerry would have filleted Bush for the skillet. As it is, he won it without breaking a sweat.

That's prettymuch my problem with all the debates this year. They are like extended campaign speeches, rather than actual debates.

But I understand why..... Bush couldn't survive in a real confrontational debate where you rebut your opponents response to questions rather than answer the same question as your opponent, only with less time to answer.

Ignorance is preferable to error; and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing, than he who believes what is wrong.

Yeah, All in all a ho hum debate. I thought the religious questions were ok; it appears that Kerry is the only one who is not blinded by his religion. Is it just me, or did Bush basically say that he would like to invade every non democratic country in order to make all people free! I still think the President of the US needs to have an IQ above luke warm water.

I would rather face a cold reality than delude myself with comforting fantasies.

As usual, we're at war and the election looms. So what did I hear all day? Kerry mentioned Cheney's daughter was a lesbian. [nah nah nah] Wow, imagine how devastating that must have been for that poor family. What a horrible thing to say. [rolls eyes for the hundreth time]

Honestly, you'd think all the broadcast sheep worked for FOX and Sinclair Broadcasting. We're doomed.
