Thanks for your comments. I thought I was clear in saying that half of NASA's budget plus billions of dollars elsewhere might just possibly equal a majority of the money when all sources are added up. If that wasn't clear, my bad.

Regardless, a great deal of money is being spent, and will continue to be spent.

The war might have influence on space projects in unexpected ways.

To assume a direct connection between cause and effect in such chaotic and complex system would be naive.

There is also the act that Space-exploration is not something exclusive american.

The current situation not only influences the budget of NASA but of Space-agencys around the world.

With the russians practically non-existant financial resources even a small changes might have big consequnces for stuff like ISS.

It also makes people rethink their stance on anything even remotly miltary-related. There is talk of Galileo, the european version of the GPS system, getting canned because of american security considerations.

Gamma ray bursts, etc., were first found by U.S. military (research) which was looking for terrestrial nuclear proliferation events. In this way, at least, military observations have improved our understanding of the unusual events occurring in our universe. So, the military observations are not all bad, bad, bad...

Of course, my information only comes second or third hand from scientific journals and not from any precise knowledge of what the military is doing.
