BTW, many driver's licenses bear SSNs, as do most gov't and all military ID cards. How about your own gov't contractor ID?

Alabama recently passed a law that made it so that SSNs on drivers licenses are optional. The clerks are now required to tell you that, and ask if you would like your SSN on your license or not.

I just have a badge with my badge number on it. Unfortunately, we could hold up our drivers license or any other little white card as we pass through the gates, and the security guards wouldn't notice. It was intense for the first few days after 9/11, and we still have to navigate a little concrete barrier maze, but they're looking alot less intently at our identification.

Hehe, I hope I don't sound too paranoid!
I'm just trying to think of reasonable and rational questions and thinking of all the potential problems.
Besides, I prefer the quote: "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!"

I was going to answer a post from @ on the 1st page by saying don't use credit cards but someone already brought up a point about completing transactions using an ID even when paying cash. My plans are still in place though, to move to the countryside by myself and hide out.
There are states that have SS#'s on drivers licenses??? WOW! I wouldn't stand for that. But then one usualy drives sitting down.
I just started back to school after more then several years away. They wanted my SS#, I said I would perfer not to have it as my school ID #. They did say if I insisted they would give me a different # instead. And when applying for store credit cards like at Home Depot they kept insisting I give my SS#, I kept insisting they didn't need it. I WON!
Everytime I tell that to someone at a store where I apply for credit they are supprised. But so far I've gotten every card I want without giving them a SS# So DON'T ever give your # if you don't feel comfortable about it. NO one needs it but the IRS.
What threat could the US gov. give, if we don't want to get an ID card? If we all throw tea in the harbor what can they do?

Move on out to Amish country here in Northeast Ohio, Snake and I'll show you how to get goods and services without leaving a paper trail. Cash only, no receipts and use of the barter system. I prefer to get paid in food for hauling my Amish neighbors around. Let me tell 'ya, fresh bread, pies, fruits and vegetables sure as hell beats chewing on a piece of paper with Hamilton's picture on it.

 Cool!
Too bad they don't believe in having electricity because I'm on an on line barter egroup for potters. No not drugs
, People who work with clay and do ceramics. It's a new group but has been getting a lot of activity. People wanting to trade tools for glazes or wheels for bats and on and on. Ohio is kind of cold in the winter isn't it? Would be nice if they moved out here, I'd like to trade services like that.
 Thanks,
 nlm

Well some sects use electricity and cars snake. They just own these things communally - sort of. (You own a car and your neighbor needs it - you lend it...) I just don't think they've gotten to the computer stage yet, though...

| I am absolutly opposed and my fingerprints have been on file for a long time (military, '57 to '67). After ID cards, what's next, in the name of 'security', of course? Checkpoints at state lines?

| I just heard a quick blurb on the radio this morning about linking airline information to a database that will allow travel agents and the people behind the counter at the airport to immediately pull up background information on the traveller. The two specific pieces of information mentioned were address and travel history.
It grates. It really, really grates.

| Just what do they plan on using this information for? How do they plan on using it? What do they hope to accomplish with it? Who will have access to it? Wouldn't that unfairly target frequent fliers?

I heard a bit more on this. It seems to be a sort of profiling so that airport security can focus on more likely (supposedly) threats. I guess it's along the lines of state troopers on the east coast who know that drug couriers (at least in the 80's) were generally black males in their early 20's to early 30's and drove large, old cars, usually Buicks. They made lots of stops based on the profile but eventually had to cease the practice.

According to the date of your post is was just the last day or so. I believe I heard something about that quite a while ago when everyone was (still is IMO) running around with their heads off, shortly after the Sept. 2001 incident happened.
Which is more evidence for my theory that Bush or some other conservitive high in the gov. planned the attack so they'd have an excuse to controll us.
