...the South African government
quote:
has announced that it will spend $100-million toward the study of garlic-related cures to HIV and AIDS...

Ngema also said that more money was to come, including $2-million for the goal of providing every South African with paper toilet-seat covers by 2010, as well as $500,000 to be spent on educational programs that will explain the dangers of touching or kissing someone with HIV...

...pseudoscientists believe that ingesting garlic gives the body's T-cells brutal garlic breath and, later, flatulence, causing the HIV virus to steer clear.

"People like Stephen Lewis show their close-mindedness by ignoring the world of clovology," Tshabalala-Msimang said. "Cures are much easier to come by when you release yourself from the shackles of science."

Simply too unbelieveable for words!

Well, garlic may prevent a person from having sex with another person due to smelly breath....just kidding.

"release from the the shackles of science" that's rich. I wonder how many people will die because of this?

It's a spoof.

The name of the publication is The Beaver Examiner, which alone should wake up the old bullshit dectector. failing that, in a column on the right of the page reads the following:
quote:
About Me

Name:The Beaver Examiner

Location:Canada

The Beaver Examiner is guided strongly by the belief that you should be strongly guided by our beliefs. Our mission is to A) be proudly independent from the facts, B) provide short stories for short attention spans, and C)keep fake news real.

Examining beavers is fun....

I fell for it too. It was in a link from a blog that was a link from the BA's blog.

You know it's easy to miss that one given the Pres of S Africa has said repeatedly he doesn't believe the HIV virus causes AIDS.

I fell for the Landover Baptist site the first time I saw that one too. Must remind myself to be more skeptical. You can just never be too skeptical.

Had I just looked at the source, "Canadian news, proudly independent from facts."

There is some funny stuff there.

I think the end of the article should have given it away. I am sure Stephen Lewis waited until the reporters had left before banging his head on the table and weeping in response to the latest idiocy from South Africa.

South Africa has had a tradition of anti-science politicians. Paul Kruger, the first prime minister of South Africa was a flat earther. Captain Joshua Slocum, the first person to sail around the world singlehandedly gives a hilarious acount of his enounter with the Afrikaaner flat earthers in Sailing Around the World Alone.

Well, it's a good thing I can cover my butt by saying that I was just stunned that anyone would have fallen for that.
