Hello, I´ve been following this really interesting discussion. Although I won´t be adding anything at the moment, there´s a very good wensite I found a few months ago. Check it out!

It sounds quite logical, even though I wouldn´t say I am an expert at this issue.

Cheers

I think a major point here is that we don't know too much about how our brains work. Except for Egoman who knows all, the rest of us are just beginning to understand the brain. In any case it is almost an established fact at this point that what we call consciousness is an illusion created, obviously, in the brain as an ad hoc processing of decisions and subroutines made within the deeper cortex. In all likelihood when we create AI it will be as dumbfounded as we are about the decisions it makes. Of course, as technology progresses the gap will widen and any tech-thriller director will tell ya, thats when they will take over .

Actually, I always thought that the smarter something/someone got the less likely it would be to be oppressive. In any case, the bigger picture is that emotion and desire etc. are really just chemical interpretations that give bodily cues. If we did create AI could anyone argue that it does not experience happiness the way we do?

On the hopeless side of things, it took 4.5 billion years to perfect the human brain to this level. Even if we give us a genuinely conceeded one up on nature, I doubt AI will be a moral question in our life times. Although, It would be fun to hear the religious chime in on the morals of creating thinking beings. They can't even handle growing organs and stem cell research.

Facts! Pssh, you can prove anything even remotely true with facts.

Lisa: Yes, but wouldn't you rather know the truth than to delude yourself for happiness?
Marge: Well... um.... [goes outside to jump on tampoline with Homer.]
