Years ago, I read an article about the names given to species discovered on an expedition to the Amazon. They were naming them after friends, relatives, and one vindictive fellow named a leech after his ex-ol' lady. I find that humorous to say the least, and I'm pleased to note that the habit yet persists.

Three amateur dinosaur hunter discovered the fossil that look remarkably similar to a dragon. As a tribute to JK Rowling's Harry Potter series of books, the fossil was named Dracorex [wiki] (meaning "Dragon King") hogwartsia, after the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
