"Symbol for Agnosticism:An image of someone shrugging with open palms out"
I thought that was the 'Enron Salute'.
But, we'll take it. Then again, why should we?
(hehehe) Edit: Thought of a better word.

Sorry, but it looks like something that would be passed out at a "Trekie" convention. The problem with the symbol is that too much thinking went into it. Something that came out of a corporate marketing department or a Hollywood add agency. . (:raig
HEY! Companies pay big bucks to other companies to design logos like that. And You are all wrong. There has been a symbol. Years ago when I was going to local meetings of AA, someone came up with one. I have a button with it. It is a simple one, I never cared for it either but it's better then that wimpy gold thing that looks like a girl scout would wear. The one I have is black with an 'A' in the center, as I recall, and two wavey parallel lines across it or near it or something. I think it also says 'Atheism, the wave of the future', if it doesn't, that's what it was supposed to mean. I'll look for it and try to scan it for you, if you like. LOL, I hope I remembered it correctly or won't I be embarrassed!

Donnie: Could be, but I like the beat on 'Dear God'
Of course, 'Sympathy for the Devil' is a great song, but then again, we do not believe in devils either.
quote: Dear God, Hope you got the letter, And I pray, you can make it better down here. We all need a big reduction in the price of beer. And all those people that you made in your image, See them starving in the street, ‘Cause they can't get enough to eat from God, I can't believe in you.
Dear God, Sorry to disturb you but I feel that I should be heard loud and clear. We all need a big reduction in the amount of tears. And all those people that you made in your image, See them fighting in the street, ‘Cause they can't make opinions meet About God, I can't believe in you.
Chorus Did you make disease And the diamond blue? Did you make mankind After we made you? And the Devil too?
Dear God, Don't know if you noticed but Your names on a lot of quotes in this book. Us crazy humans wrote it, You should take a look. And all those people that you made in your image, Still believe that that junk is true. Well I know it ain't and so do You. Dear God, I can't believe in… I don't believe in… I won't believe in Heaven and Hell, No saints, no sinners, No Devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You're always letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you've drowned. And it's the same the whole world ‘round. The hurt I see helps you compound, The father, son and Holy Ghost, Is just somebody's unholy hoax. If you're still up there, you'd perceive That my heart's here upon my sleeve. If there's one thing I can't believe in... It's you, Dear God.
Like it? Great instrumentation and vocals too.
Of course, we could make our own:
*Xev steps onto the stage, tight black shirt with a Darwinfish embroidered in sequins and torn jeans*
*She slings her electric guitar across a shoulder, picks up the mike and begins to sing*
This one is for all you logicians in the audience
*Logicians scream and wave lighters in the air*
There is just as much evidence against the existance of God as for Oh, that you won't deny, will you? Oh that you can't deny, can you?
*Chorus as Xev goes into guitar solo*
Occam's razor, wooo woo Occam's razor, woo woo woo Occam's razor is a valid logical tool
*Xev begins singing again*
Occam's razor, it states 'Entities must not be multiplied unnecessarily' Oh you know it is true Occam's razor is a valid logical tool
*Percussion starts with a solo as Xev gyrates*
*Xev begins singing again*
God is an entity Or such is postulated by you Thiests but Occam's razor is a valid logical tool
*Chorus as Xev prances around the stage*
Occam's razor, Occam's razor, wooo woo Occam's razor and logic Screw Pascal's wager, Occam's razor Occam's razor, wooo woo
*Back to Xev*
Now I'll tell you somthing, and I'll tell you true Believing in God is an unnecessary multiplying of entities No objections there, oh noo
*Xev pauses singing to yell:*
With me so far, aren't youu?
*Audience screams assent*
*Back to singing*
Therefore, believing in God is irrational.
*Solo member of the chorus, a nice topless, attractive man (GET ON WITH IT!)in jeans*
How can you call me names? I think you just lack faith You really should try to pray
*Cut back to Xev* Now don't take it personal babe You have conceded the necessity of faith Besides, and I this I will not deny Irrational does not mean inferior or wrong.
*Xev and solo chorus member sing a duet*
Well I suppose we will have to agree To disagree Because you have failed to convince me
*Man*
That reason is better than faith
*Xev*
That faith is better t |

Another candidate would surely be We Won't Get Fooled Again by the mighty Who.
Yyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Or how about Imagine, which is one of the most clearly atheistic (even anti-theistic) songs ever to make it to commercial radio?

Don't know any Atheist songs, but I've downloaded a few good ones on Scientology. Such classics as 'Ron the con', 'Heber is hiding', and 'LRH is dead, time to blow'.

Of course the atheist symbol is silly. All symbols (or bumper sticker philoshopies) are stupid insofar as one can never give an idea justice with a simple symbol or witty aphorism.
However, I wear my atheist pendant often, even though I usually regard myself as an agnostic, I find that the "A" is so flexible, I can be creative with it. What's great about it is that no one (except for a few fundamentalists, from whom you usually receive means scowls or Chick leaflets) knows what the hell it means. Thus, when asked "what's that mean," I can have fun with people. Some replys might be: 1) I'm a complete Asshole, and so they made me wear this. 2) I'm sorry, but I'm very Annoying. 3) I'm a big Asimov fan. 4) I'm an Alien.
As you see, if you liberate the atheist symbol from its literal meaning, it can provide hours of amusement.

I display the American Atheist logo all the time, and the reactions I have gotten have been overwhelmingly positive. Not only do I have the wind breaker, pendant, lapel pin, car window decal, and visor cap, but also two other different style caps with the cloth emblem sewn on. This cloth emblem, in addition to the logo, bears the words "freedom of religion - American Atheists." Only the most naive religionists (the type that invoke Pascal's wager - ) have ever attempted to convert me.
