Megan,

You're surfing the BA and here, surely there's something that's been discussed that has captured your interest at least in part. Skim through SciAm's website and a few of the technology sites like Poptronics. See if anything catches your fancy.

Once you pick a topic, bring it here and get out and surf some of the sites that deal with the subject. Write your essay, starting loosely with the 5 paragraph essay as a framework is probably best. Create an outline, ask Lisa or ask us here to review it, maybe someone will have some pointers for additional information or whether you have extraneous info in the outline. Write a rough draft, you have a bevy of us here who are capable of bleeding all over the paper. Then, rewrite, rewrite, and rewrite some more.

Helps?

Why not do your paper on the Moon Hoax, its claims that the Apollo landings never occurred, and why those claims are wrong? You have a lot of resources online and in print (since you have a copy of BA's book handy).

The "technological event" is the Apollo program and moon landings. That would be a ho-hum topic on its own, but coming at it from the angle of debunking the hoax believers would give the essay a different twist, and maybe catch some reviewer's attention.

Try this site:

http://www.essayedge.com/

I hope it proves useful. I haven't had to write admissions essays yet...but this is helpfull in general essay writing.

As for a topic, pick somthing that strikes your fancy and interests you. That way, you will not be bored.

Believe me, if you are bored by your essay topic, you will not write a good essay.

Good luck!

While we're on the topic of science essays, try this site. The 1980's punk band, Bad Religion, is still pumping out the same music with eruditic lyrics. The have introduced a scholarship, though, and are currently working on becoming a nonprofit organization. They should be back up in a few months.

Oh, and Megan, although the internet is a superb resource don't forget books: they're still the repository for most of the world's detailed knowledge.
