Simon and Dude.....

Webster: 7: medium
an individual through whom other persons seek to communicate with the spirits of the dead and who is held by such persons to be a channel of communication between the earthly world of the living and a nontemporal spiritual realm of the departed.
If you take this definition absolutely literally, she was indeed a genuine medium!

Filthy and Cune.....

Spinach pan fries and deep fries beautifully. Worked great in the poke recipe sauteéd - no boiling, all the good stuff goes down the drain. Bacon grease is perfect with spinach with lots of crumbled bacon for crunch. Love the addition of HB eggs. Eat with corn pones and butter. Take a Mevacor!

My folks came from Durham, I learned southern cooking in my childhood. Shoo fly pie and apple pan dowdy makes your eyes light up and your tummy say howdy!

It's been decades since I heard that song! Coincidently, I live only a few miles from Shoo Fly, NC.

There has never a proven medium. Ever. There have been and will be scads of the unproven ones though, most doing well enough at it on a material basis because the folks visiting & paying them don't much care about credentials -- it's style over function, as it were. Look at the long-running success Miss Cleo enjoyed (not a medium per se but it's not all that different, bullshit being what it is).

That is not to say that there has never been nor ever will be any. We live in a cosmos with a cosmic quantity of possibilities, some of which include gods & after-lives, angels, leprechauns, invisible, pink unicorns, batboys, talking serpents, gollywhompers, Dave W, seven headed Revelation-monsters, sasquatches, jabberwoks, cheshire cats and, yes, mediums as well. But due to a lack of past & present, evidential support, against is the way to bet and you could feel comfortable with 'most any odds.

Now, back to the bake-off -- tomato, this is what can happen around here when you put up a topic, then abandon it.

That poke salad I had for breakfast was the last little dab of a much larger batch. I put it in a bowl, nuked it for a minute, then dropped an over-very-easy egg on it. A whisper of salt, a healthy shot of cayenne, and it just don't get no better'n that!

Well, kil will yell at me if I start off by responding to these kind of posts with, "How f-ing retarded to you have to be ask that question? You have to find one "genuine medium" before you can even pose your question about this person. Get back to me when you remove your head from your ass and learn to think.

Sounds plausible.

Maybe we could have a code; like, using the initials. That would gives:
HFRDYHTATQ.

Then people in the know will nod and maybe even smile a little.

Yeah!

I win on the internet!

Filthy and Simon.....

Filth, with your addition of the word "proven", I agree with you 100%. But Leonora was a genuine medium according to the Webster definition. "an individual through whom other persons seek to communicate with the spirits of the dead and..... who is held by such persons to be a channel of communication between the earthly world of the living and a nontemporal spiritual realm of the departed."

Both the "seek" and the "held" parts are true of the idiots that frequent mediums. Certainly, no one ever proved that she did as she claimed - either contact the dead or telepathically read the minds of the deceased's loved ones!

I am tempted here to pick up on my recent fox trot with the cosmological phenomenon Dave W. and proceed to demonstrate with eternal Aristotelian logic that "held" = "perceives" = "exists" = "reality" , but I've been there, done rattled his chain enough, so to hell with it!

Simon (Simon Peter, I hope, not any of those other leprous, brother-in-law Simons) either you'll get used to Dude or you won't!

Dude tends to lose it occasionally with respect to personal insult, but he's sharper than a single atom tip formed by chemically assisted spatially controlled field evaporation, when his head is clear!

Personally, I have observed that your head is a comfortable distance from your colon and you have indeed learned very well how to think.

But, Simon, what's with the code acronym? You left out the B and the second "to"! We just don't tolerate that kind of sloppiness around this grammatically perfect place! Dude wrote "to" instead of "do" and left out the second "to", but he's off his meds, so we have to make allowances!

Well, as I can't type but with three of four fingers (couldn't learn to use the full hands for typing, can't play the piano either, go figure) I'm reasonably satisfied with the small number of typos I make and miss in a proofread.

Simon Bolivar actually. I come from a long line of liberals.

As for Dude; let me make clear that, in my short time here; I did gather nothing but respect for Dude and his braininess.
I was just overcome by my need to be a smart-ass.

Doh; I did make a mistake is my acronym? And I checked it twice too...
Well, maybe we could use something simpler then, for my own sake.

Maybe we could call it a 'Code Rho-Epsilon?'.
That's the first to letters of the word retard, so that's plenty insulting. But that's still confusing for the newcomer.

'Calling all SFNer... we have a code Rho-Epsilon! I repeat; code Rho-Epsilon. This is not a drill!'

That'd be plenty cool; nuff says!
