Oh fer cying out loud...

A pyramid scheme. And this one is a scheme that you must keep paying for!

I wish there was a way that we could mess with them.

Any ideas?

It's weird, alrighty.

After 36 months, they'll have given you $114,730.00, and you'll have paid them back $63,733.08, so your net gain is $50,996.92. If you were to quit at this point, you'll be paid off in 11 more months if you can afford the whopping $5,094/mo payment.

The interest they're charging on the loans is about 6% API (0.5% per month).

The real pitfall seems to be that after 36 months, your monthly payment is 73.69% of your monthly disbursement. If the trend I am seeing continues, after 78 months, a person would owe more per month than their disbursement, when they give you $53,655.85 but you owe them $53,715.83. At this point, your payment would be over 25% of your balance.

This is either really complex accounting, or I'm just not getting it. It's nowhere near as obviously dumb as the old PIPS claims of 2% interest per day, sustained.

I love the made-up names they come up with. Check out this posting about complex money matters involving "Solidtrustpay" (that sounds solid and trustworthy) and "Intabill" (hmm, techy).
[07/17/2008] Solidtrustpay and Intabill

Many of you have expressed concerns about the extended downtime of Intabill and SolidTrustPay.

To explain further, our credit card processor, Intabill has been forced to use a different bank to process its merchant payments. This switch has proved to be very time-consuming. We have been informed that the new system is up and running, however, certain software additions have to be tested by Intabill for normalcy before we can bring the system back online for everyone. This should not take long, but again, our hands are tied until they are finished with this process. When it is complete, this news item will disappear and processing will return to normal.

SolidTrustPay, who also uses Intabill, has taken advantage of this downtime to upgrade their website as well. This is why you may have seen their website go up and down over the past three days. If you cannot make a payment via their portal, which is integrated with ours, it simply means that they are making changes to their system. As of today, SolidTrustPay seems to be working fine, so you may continue using it. If you cannot make a payment through SolidTrustPay for some reason, there is no need to submit a trouble ticket, simply try again a bit later.

We will be adding a new backup processor very soon so this issue will never happen again. This particular news item will be removed when either Intabill corrects their problem or we negotiate a new one and card processing resumes.

Again, we regret the inconvenience this may have caused some of you, so deadlines have been extended and there is no need to worry about late payments.

Hopefully, all this will be completely resolved before the week is out and processing can continue as normal.

Have a great week!

From their Q&A:

Q.28

Who is everyone there in your office, and where are you located?
A.

This seems to be a question that pops up a lot. We have consulted with our attorneys and we have been advised not to release this sensitive information for some of the same reasons we had to put different parts of the entire business in different countries. We simply cannot predict what any determined government official from any country is willing to do to shut down a program that, while 100% legally constructed, is still frowned upon by certain segments of a population. Disclosing personal bio on the site or through any un-proxied emails makes one a target as plain as a bull's eye for the common "trial by ambush" tactic performed on network marketers in the past. If we want to make this program last and be wonderfully successful, we have to protect ourselves, our investors, and our customers' identities. Put this way, it made a lot of sense to us. It is for this reason we are restricted from revealing exactly which venture capitalist companies invest with us, where our offices are located, and who works in those offices. We apologize for having to have this information withheld, and hope you can understand our position.

These schemes work on one simple principle - greed blinds people. There have been many people who work in the financial field, obviously who should know better, who have been taken big time by all sorts of get-rich-quick ripoffs. Some more than once.

So if you quit after 36 months your in the hole $5137.08 (including the $100 application fee......and assuming you never spent a dime of the $50,996.92 you received!).

You must maintain 2 active referrals or your loans end and you owe the balance.

But wait:

Q.19 What happens If I quit the program? Do I have to pay back the loan?
A.

Since we do not ask for your social security number, we do not report defaults to credit or collection agencies, however, should you choose to quit the program, you can do one of two things:

1) Pay back the loan plus the small interest fees, or,
2) While we hope you would not do this, if you decided to keep the money, you immediately become responsible for reporting it as income and paying taxes on it.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
