Dan is gaming Amazon reviews of atheist books, now?
His statement to me that no man can lead another to God is looking like just so much more hypocrisy.
I had to quit visiting his blog because of that sort of nonsense. There really is no reasoning with the guy - no logic behind his arguments. |

That's pretty much the consensus here and there as well.
Well, if you look at the final posts on Dan's site, it looks like he's apologized. Loftus seems to have forgiven him...
Think Dan's sincere? Still, that's a lot better than most creationists. Even I've been able to get him to back down once in a while, I think. Compare Dan to, say, Sarfati.

I'm wondering about the sincerity of his apology. Why? Dan calls an advert that atheists placed on the side of a bus "awful". What was so awful about it? Well, ask him. He posts about it on his own blog, where we see the "awful" thing that he alluded to in the previous post. (Though if you follow the FOX news link from that first link, you'll see it anyway).
Though for comparison's sake, look at the FOX news article Dan links to, and then check out the links "Quasar" gives on Dan's own site (the second link I gave here).
Interesting the difference a title makes.

Ah. Here's the thread I was looking for...
I've tried to deal with this idiot, when I caught him misquoting Micheal Ruse, but get a load of how he responds. The first part of his comment is to my comment.
He avoids any possibility that he and the creationists are the ones doing the misquoting here. He goes on to say that either Ruse is being dishonest or I am. The prick.
So, I've let him have it.
EDIT: The misquote of Ruse is this:
Dr Michael Ruse, an eloquent spokesman for evolution today, has admitted:
"Evolution is promoted by its practitioners as more then mere science. Evolution is promulgated as an ideology, a secular religion. A full-fledged alternative to Christianity, with meaning and morality. This was true of evolution in the beginning, and it is true of evolution still today." |
It's the same quote that Answers in Genesis once used. Dan doesn't even provide a source for it.

Yeah, but it can't really be proven. I've got the full article on my harddrive, but he (if I remember correctly) does quote an unaltered part. It's the rest of the context that he and the creationists mess up.
Though yeah, it's the same section from the article that the creationists quote.
And, he didn't say where he got it until after I had posted it. Maybe I should test him and ask what various other sentences begin the other paragraphs of that article. |

Later on in that same thread I've been challenging him to quote or say what the second paragraph of that article was that he claims to have read. It's a part I did not quote. I have the full article that Ruse had emailed me.

Well, still no answer to my challenge above. In the meantime, here's a quote from him:

It IS unconstitutional. But, then again, I am of the opinion that the constitution is here to be modified (seriously, it is a great and indispensable guideline; of course; but the idea of something being unconstitutional as being a definitive answer irks me. Sure, second amendment, well; we can always change the constitution; dummy!)
No, my real beef is about the 'morality' of the bible. The bible is not a good textbook on any subject and the bible is an horrible, terrible teacher of moral. One that promote unconditional obedience, even against one's most basic instincts and moral (Genese 11; Judges 11:31 to 11:37) and genocides and war crimes (Joshua 8:22; Judges, 1:25; Judges 12:6); subjugation of women and homophobic bigotry.
Sadly, most people never take the time to actually read the text... I know that we would have many more atheists if it was the case. |
