Gorgo:
Not sure where you get that idea or how you define left and right.

Well, I live in the USA Gorgo so that is pretty much my frame of reference. I understand that the middle has moved in a rightward direction over the last 30 years or so. I am also aware that the Democrats would be considered a right wing party in, say, Sweden and many other European countries.

That said, I am heartened by Obama's suggestion that government must often serve as the solution to problems, which is a 180 degree turn from what the rhetoric has been since the Reagan years, when he suggested that government is the problem. We will never see a solution to the health care crisis, for example, without government involvement. The idea that government plays a crucial roll in assuring, as best it can, the well being of the people it serves, and not just the security of the nation as a whole, is a clear shift to the left in ideology.

Of course, we still don't know what's going to happen.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Generally speaking, people in the U.S. want left things like Universal Health Care, Social Security, unemployment, etc. They don't want right things like wars, NAFTA, wealthy people using our economy like a casino. You know, things that Clinton and Bush helped us get.

Agreed, but how do we change the dynamics of politics to where our elected representative do what's best for the country and not what's best to keep their personal political coffers full and their sorry asses re-elected.

I don't think we can. They have the system so thoroughly rigged it is, for all practical purposes, to get a viable third party candidate to appear on the ballot. Full Coffers = Reelection, and they're certainly not going to vote in any change that would reduce their wealth, or make it easier for third party candidate to have a shot.
The media also assist. That's the biggest problem. There is no one watching.

Absolutely true. The only time they pay attention to third party candidates is to portray them as either clowns, or evil clowns.

The mass media loves the status quo, especially the rules and regulations that create huge entry barriers to competition. They may bitch and moan about FCC interference, but that's mostly show. They love the fact that it's nearly impossible to open up any kind of broadcast channel that would compete with them.

Several years ago the FCC was considering making it easy for anyone to set up a low power radio station, which wouldn't even be an issue in a free country. The mass media screamed. And that champion of the common man, NPR? They were one of the leaders in the fight against it.

What the logical ending for Bush's presidency should be.

> Good luck with that fuckwit. And Reynold, fucking run, and don't stop.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.
