I posted this mainly because of the very cool picture. Click in the margin to enlarge it. Very cool.

The video is none too shabby itself. Imagine being on that boat so-o close up to the action as they are.

"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."

"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?"

Remarkable photos and video! Imagine the power of the blasts that would be required in order to produce a clear path through the water for dry ash to escape into the air.

BTW, a 7.7 quake and a minor tsunami have now been created.

For some reason the video won't play on the office PC. I'll have to take a look at it at home...

Thanks to Maria Brumm for a link to "high-quality Tonga volcano porn" from the Boston Globe.

Hmmm... Maria Brumm points out, using a map (Dave's first link above), that the earthquake I mentioned and the volcanoes are unrelated coincidences.

The photos (Dave's second link) are wonderful. I got a chuckle out of the old fellow wearing a yellow life jacket in number 9, who is pointing at a massive explosion that doubtless everyone present would have missed without him calling attention to the environmental detail.

Paula Poundstone once talked about that one guy in the middle of a traffic jam who honks his horn, wondering if perhaps he expects to see a headline the next day, "Alert Motorist Informs Many." People who point out the obvious often make themselves a target of humor.
