And all 13 of her viewers almost laughed as well.

Actually, more than just her viewers saw it. I've never caught her act, but read about it and laughed 'till I puked!

Please tell me that you didn't go teabagging, Bill. I'd hate to think that a friend was involved in such nonsense.

No teabagging for me. I was to busy trying to get my taxes done. (just joking)

A far worthier enterprise -- hope you didn't get bitten too badly, and the Rude Pundit agrees:

"The Tea Parties: So That Happened:
Yesterday, thousands of poor and middle-class people were manipulated into helping rich people keep more of their money. It's sort of like going to a Yankees game, but without the souvenirs.

The Rude Pundit thinks it's generally a good thing when large groups of people come together for a cause, and, agree or disagree with the cause, getting people in the habit of protesting is ultimately positive for the nation. It gives us a more European feel, where citizens tend to actually give a shit about what their government is doing. Would that many of the people holding up signs yesterday had respected our antiwar marches back in 2003 and 2004, but, hey, water under a bridge built of bones, you know.

What is stunning is that yesterday's Tea Party protests were based on a demonstrable, factual lie. It wasn't about interpreting something or opinions. No, what people were protesting was actually a falsehood. They were played for suckers while they thought they were saving democracy. It was a bait and switch, man, a con game that was more dishonest than sidewalk three-card monte.

The whole day was filled with Fox-fanned falsehoods, starting with the whole acronym the protests adopted after "teabag" became the subject of mucho deserved mocking. "Taxed Enough Already" presupposes that taxes will be raised. And it seems that the tea partyers simply think that Barack Obama is lying to them when he says that the taxes for the vast, vast majority of Americans are lower under his plan. (On his radio show, Alan Colmes was screaming at callers who kept insisting that Obama was raising taxes for everyone.) The protests were against some fantasy administration, a sandwich of fascism on a socialism bun covered in a secret sauce of tyranny. It's like prayer: you can't really prove that it matters, but, hey, someone told you it was a good idea to do it, so down on your knees you go."

Funny but kinda sad, ain't it?

Today's paper list the total somewhere between 1500 and 2000. Again, like others have observed, mostly white, many older, complaining about socialism and taxes. And mostly contrived due to the promotional efforts of Fox News and sponsorship by conservative groups. Although the guy who organized the Charlotte event is a libertarian.

Also, utter, bald-faced treason. FOX anchor Greta van Susteren (connected into the PA system at the rally) leads Texas teabaggers in cheer for succession.

Amusing, is it not, that only a few days ago they were wringing their hands and moaning that Obama was a socialist. Now, they are gnashing their teeth and whining piteously that he's a fascist. I strongly suspect that they don't know the definitions of either word. Smegheads.

Going to have to break out Hayek's definition of fascism and his view of its location in the political spectrum just to be argumentative!

This whole thing has nothing to do with taxes nor federal spending. It is about an educated black man wiping the floor in a presidential election with a white one. The fact that the darkie is having some success and will most likely enjoy a lot more of it drops a pipe wrench into their mental reduction gears, and the grinding can be heard nation-wide. Me, I love it!

What it 'stills off to is that the Republicans lost an election that they were certain of winning and worse yet, lost it to a black man. They've now been out of power for better than 100 days, and they just can't stand it. I probably could have worded my statement a little better, but there you have it.

These teabagging parties sort'a make me wonder what they'll do for an encore. I've got little doubt that there will be one.

Friedrich Hayek? The road to Serfdom?

You realize he was demonstrably wrong and stupidly ill informed (or blinded by his own ideology).
His argument that totalitarianism starts with central planning is wrong, as neither Germany nor Russia had central planning at the time of their sinking into dictatorship. He also seemed to believe that both Hitler and the Soviet were elected to solve the shortcomings of central planning. Once again, it's wrong, Hitler was elected on a totally different program and the USSR never elected the communists into power.
Also, Hitler never had any nationalization plan for the German economy...

Even if he was a credible reference, it is not relevant as Obama has never indicated he wished for a nationalization of the economy...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Carl Sagan - 1996

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest Obama was in any way fascist, or that Hayek's "Road" correctly describes the rise of Nazism.

However, I do agree with Hayek that fascism is not diametrically opposed to socialism, and that the two have some concepts in common, so calling someone a fascist who you used to call a socialist is not necessarily a contradiction.

Still don't know how that even became the topic. Why would you assume Republicans are upset because he's black?

Ay least partly. But mostly it's the loss of power as evidencedby recent behavior. I think we can look forward to more "teabagish" acts of lunacy.

Topic? Close enough.

I don't much feel like starting another thread just for this, so in a similar vein:

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
by Meg White

In another edition of the Falwell Confidential, an e-mail newsletter from the late Rev. Jerry Falwell's son Jonathan, the Baptist pastor drew a straight line connecting pro-lifers such as himself to violent extremists.

Hey, man: You said it, not me.

Falwell was reacting to the publication of an intelligence report by the Department of Homeland Security warning about the possibility of a homegrown terrorist attack due to violent radicalization of disgruntled individuals on the right. Here's an excerpt from his letter to his "fellow 'extremists'"

Essentially, Jonathan Falwell is identifying himself and his followers with outright swastika-saluting Nazis and cross-burning Klansmen. Those are the right-wing extremists that Napolitano was pointing to.

But to be fair to Falwell, it is getting harder and harder these days to tell his kind of theonazis from the old school "real" Nazis.
