These are some truely evil people.
At Glendale's Avenues Pregnancy Clinic, women go in for a pregnancy test and come out fearing eternal damnation
By Tina Dupuy 04/16/2009

I'm sitting in a generic-looking clinic waiting room. The space is clean. Empty. Quiet. The all-purpose art on the walls matches the neutral-colored couches. A receptionist at the office window, a 30-something brunette clad in scrubs and a sensible cardigan, sits at a desk and appears busy.It looks like any doctor's office. Totally normal.

I'm filling out a form. It's only two pages long and doesn't ask the usual personal and medical information. One page asks for my name, contact info, date of birth and date of my last period. The other is a disclosure form. It notifies me that the people I'm about to talk to do not have psychological degrees and have not gone to medical school. The volunteers, the form says, should not be considered a substitute for professional counseling. Oh, and the pregnancy test I'm about to take, the form tells me, should not be considered a clinical diagnosis.

I'm at Avenues in Glendale, which — despite all the above disclaimers — styles itself a “pregnancy clinic.”

I hate to break this to you filthy but that practice is as old as the "right to life" movement itself. We had one of those bogus clinics right down the street from us until very recently. (It probably relocated due to rising rents in this area.) Michelle and I have often pondered about what we could do about that place.

These fake clinics are far too common, and all too disgusting.

At the very least they should be required to have real medical personnel. Right now, their professional budget is limited to providing scrubs as disguises to help the church members to pose as medical pros. If they were required by law to have real doctors and nurses, there would be far fewer of these fake "clinics."

Yeah, I know; they're everywhere. The reason I posted it at all is because these dirt-wads are accredited by the State of California, which I find as outrageous as the practice itself. Should'a gone into depth on it. Or put it in Politics.

Total bastards, but what do you expect from people who thank jeebus every time an abortion doctor is shot or a clinic bombed? They have no scruples whatsoever, but claim that atheism has no moral compass. If it ever happens here in Toronto I'll be picketing and handing out brochures.

What about something like a denial of service attack? Get hundreds of women to show up at one place. May not do much, but it'd be kind of funny to see...

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Some states actually fund these fake clinics. Such funding should be a priority target for abortion rights and secularist groups.

I just don't see how that is not a violation of the establishment clause.

I guess that provided that the association provide other services in addition to the brainwashing religious countervailing, it is kosher as the State would be officially financing these operations.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
