Finally, after all these years, Joe Cocker's version makes complete
sense....

"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."

"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?"

Maybe the lyrics do, but that dancing doesn't.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

(you had to be there...ha)

This performance film, without the modern dubbed in silly lyrics, is one little icon of the hippie sixties. A few years later, John Belushi, on Saturday Night Live, did a knock-down rendition of Cocker's , dare I say, 'spastic' Woodstock performance.
In SNL fashion, later on, Joe Cocker was the guest musician. John Belushi (in full Cocker mock-up), performed with him on stage, arms flailing, all over the place. Sorry, no youtube on this, yet.

Funny stuff. But yeah, that's the way Joe Cocker moved. He really could sing his ass off, even if you couldn't find the lyrics even with a universal translator.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

I think my Babel fish died.
