Hi, to introduce my influences:

Amy Ray
William F. Buckley, Jr.
The Amazing Randi
Keith Olbermann

So knowing what I know, why do I have trouble stopping self destructive behaviors such as drinking, overdoses, cutting... Psychiatrists say PTSD and Bipolar type 2.

Welcome to the Skeptic Friends Network, olorin.

Unfortunately, nobody here can give you medical advice. Stick with the health-care professionals who have actually taken your history, examined you and diagnosed your troubles.

Lack of those things, in this forum, would qualify any answer to your question as pure speculation.

Don't know about bipolar, but I do know that PSTD can be a bitch. Many never recover from it. With me, it is chronic depression and I'm getting off lightly. And it's not as bad as it once was.

I can only echo the advice of Dave and BigPapa and that is to follow your physician's recommendations. And to wish at least the luck I've had with it.

Edit: That's quite a list on influences you have, there. Well done!

The internets are a terrible place to look for medical advice!

Go to your doctors, and if you don't like what they have to say... ask for a second opinion. Most doctors will not be offended by the request (if they are, you needed a new doctor anyway) and will gladly refer you to another or help you get in to see one that you have already chosen.

I suppose that this could be a good starting point for discussing the concept of free will.

Sonny, I doubt if you know just how tough it can get. If you did, you wouldn't make such imbecilic remarks.

This is the second post of yours I've seen, and the other wasn't much better. I gave you the benefit of the doubt on that one, but not here. What's your fucking problem, anyway? Do you get your jollies ragging at people you don't know, from the safety of your keyboard? If so, rag away; we like trolls. They give us the opportunity to exercise our vocabularies.
