It's sad that it took the death of his son for him to (apparently) rethink his belief...

Sources in the U.S. disclosed to me this week that his son's sudden death has 'deeply shaken' Travolta's faith in the strange sect, which makes wild claims about its ability to cure a variety of physical and mental disorders.

The star - who, thanks to his dedication and open cheque book, has risen to the top of the secretive organisation - is said to be angry that the religion was unable to help Jett, who was widely reported to have suffered from autism.

'There have been strong rumours coming out of Scientology that John Travolta is disappointed that the religion was not able to help his son more,' Rick Ross, an American author and lecturer on Scientology, told me this week. 'It's led him to question his faith.'

One can only hope, that, if true, those people leave him the hell alone after he leaves them!

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Unless they've mellowed out recently -- unlikely - they will not. They consistently go after high-profile recruits and, when they get them, do not lightly give them up. Never forget; Scientology is a criminal organization masquerading as a church and should be regarded as such. And they have a history of getting pay-backs -- damn, that almost makes them an actual religion, doesn't it?

And if indeed, Travolta barfs up the Kool-Aid and leaves them. I'll believe that one when I see it.

I was walking down Lincoln in Chicago on Friday and passed by a Scientology "church" or whatever the hell you call it. I was tempted to take a pic for posting, but did not. I had the slight suspicion that I was being watched (it was just me on the street with my cell phone out), but that could just be my normal paranoia.

If Travolta does manage to leave, I wonder what other crazy sect of religion he'll land in? I would give a very small chance of him abandoning all religion and becoming an atheist/agnostic...he doesn't seem to be the type.

Found this while looking for some news about Travolta's "crisis of faith".

John Travolta's rep has refuted the British tabloid's report that the still-mourning actor has reevaluated his longstanding devotion to the cult religion, calling any rumors of disillusionment with the organization "totally false."

Oh well...another glass of Kool-Aid for Mr. Travolta.

Take it anyway and screw 'em. What can they do? They put a sign on a building where the public can see it, so you can photograph it if you wish. If they follow you and harass you then they are the ones doing something possibly illegal.

There's a Scientology place in the City centre I live in and it regularly has groups of masked protestors outside with flyers that read stuff like "Scientology is a cult not a religion", I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, but I always feel sorry for the people inside.

I'm certainly sorry that they're inside that place.

I certainly agree with you on this. Being a recovering pentecostal, I can attest that even "mainstream" Christian churches are cults, though they claim religion.

Well; there are actual, striving to be objective, definitions of what consist an (abusive) cult. Most of them are actual Christian churches, or at least, incorporate enough Christian elements to confuse the issue.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
