BioGrad: Ms. Lohan, what do you consider to be the primary driving force in biological evolution? Natural selection, sexual selection, or some other factor?

LL: Life is full of risks anyway, why not take them?

SkeptiSally: Deborah S. Jin's 2003 work in physics resulted in her creation of the first fermionic condensate. What do you think of her, especially in terms of the expanding role of women in the field of physics?

LL: I called her last week, and I was like, “Do you wanna hang out?” And her sister hung up the phone on me! I don't like having enemies ... and there's the saying, keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

ZooNerd: Protective coloration is an important form of anti-predator adaptation, used by many lifeforms. How does this strategy impact your own life?

LL: You can't really complain because it's what you have to accept is going to happen when you're in the spotlight, and you want this. And I understand that. At the same time, it's hard when you're just waking up, and you're going out to get your mail and there are people there. It bugs me sometimes, of course, but I don't do it on purpose, you know? I try to just live my life; I'm not doing stuff like that to get noticed.

Ivy Prof: What would you say to encourage young people to get a good education?

LL: People go to college to find who they are as a person and find what they want to do in life, and I kind of already know that so it would be like I'd be taking a step back or something.

IEEE-Duh: Electrical engineer Wilmer L. Barrow was in charge of research and development at Sperry Rand. He developed a method of transmitting energy via microwave emissions, a method that may someday be used to bring electrical power from orbiting solar energy collectors to the earth's surface. What is your opinion of Barrow's engineering legacy?

LL: Wilmer was my first love. But the timing was bad. And there were all these girls around; he would flirt with them. And I couldn't handle that. I really didn't trust him. So that was hard too.

CriticalTinker: If you were on a high-rise balcony, and a sweet-talking, cute guy said that if you stepped off the balcony you would turn into a butterfly, what would you do?

LL: Never say never. The things that you don't plan are the best. I'm a very spontaneous person.

Biology is just physics that has begun to smell bad.” —HalfMooner
