Wow. This guy is a piece of work. The BBC has a story of a woman who deconverted from Orthodox Judaism.

She claims she was forced into an arranged marriage at the age of 17 with a man she met 30 minutes prior to their wedding. She left the community at the age of 19, together with her newly born son.

The book has prompted angry reaction from her former community for revealing some painful secrets. She says she now worries about her personal safety.

Well, guess what one enlightened Judiac person thinks of her:

And guess what - she's exposed herself as being a pathological liar. What a shock.

Dear anti-Orthodox bloggers: please write books! Call Simon and Schuster. Let's discover what obnoxious, selfish, whores, whoremongers, porn addicts, potheads, alcoholics and general losers you really are.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Jewish Philosopher writes (second link in OP):
Nearly all formerly Orthodox bloggers are anonymous. Generally they claim to be "afraid" to reveal their identities, however it's seems doubtful what exactly they are really afraid of.
Note that Mr. J. Philosopher is not afraid to give his name for all to see!

You've posed a question fit rabbinical scholars, Mr. (or is it Dr.?) Philosopher. Let's see: Could it maybe be that escapees from your lunatic farm like to remain anonymous because, well, people like you would like to track them down, smear them in public, and generally encourage True Believers to make their lives living hells?

You fuckwit Torquemada-acting son of a bitch.

Actually, I doubt that. The ultra orthodox are not the same as the church of scientology. The most likely answer is that they don't want to embarrass their relatives. It's clear that they feel under attack by this book, and some of them are also reacting very defensively. There is a deep seated concern in that community that secularization spells doom to Judaism as they practice it. And they might be right about that. Personally, I don't see that as a bad thing. But they do. Still, it's important, I think, to understand the differences between their brand of fundamentalism and Protestant fundamentalism. They both cling to the silly, but on the Jewish side, education is very important. And because of that, while it's becoming somewhat less so because of issues having to do with Israel, they tend to be left of center. (Again. That might be changing.)

Also, there is reason to doubt Feldman's story. Or to at least to withhold judgement one way or the other. A knee jerk reaction because this is about a religious community is not exactly what I would call critical thinking, if you see what I mean. Just saying...

Also there is a link on Dr. Whatever's blog to more info about him, that includes his real name.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Good cautionary comments, Kil. I'll await seeing how this pans out.
