Correct! Sanal Edamaruku is the founder of Rationalist International and President of the Indian Rationalist Association. There seem to be a number of skeptics in India roughly proportional to the number of Hindu gods.
One of Sanal's guru-busting stunts, while on a television show, was to challenge a Tantrik guru to kill him with magic only. The viewership of the TV show shot up. The guru repeatedly threw mantras and ceremonies at Edamaruku, but was unable to fell him, finally acknowledging that Sanal must be under the protection of a very powerful god.
Now, police have issued arrest warrants for Sanal Edamaruku, after he, on assignment by a TV station, visited a Catholic church in Mumbai, where a "dripping Jesus" crucifix statue was bringing in throngs of faithful to witness the miracle of water dripping off its feet, and to collect the "holy" water. Edamaruku found the water was leaking through a wall behind the crucifix by capillary action from an adjoining rest room's sewer drain.
The Churchmen were furious for his exposure of the mundane truth behind the valuable miracle, and they misused the laws to have a "blasphemy" warrant issued for Edamaruku. |
