After Months of Mystery, the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Unveils Top New Hipsters

November 16, 2012 -- Updated 0630 GMT (1430 HKT)

Beijing (MNN) -- China on Thursday unveiled the elite group of hipsters who will set the hip agenda for the country's neo-bohemians for the next decade, the culmination of months of selection of those who best conform in their non-conformity and a carefully choreographed performance of casual avant-garde pomp.

The dozen members of the self-indulged committee that markets a sardonic facade of originality for Chinese hipsterism strode out onto a stage in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Selected for the top post of Überhipster was Xi Manong.

New Überhipster, Xi Manong.

Pime Hipster heir apparent, Li Keqiang.

The other new Hipburo members (names not yet announced):

Xi is joined on the new Hipburo Standing Committee, the party's top slim slow slider body, by Li Keqiang, who is expected to replace the now uncool Wen Jiabao as Prime Hipster early next year, and ten other off-beat officials.

Although the committee's lineup is new, analysts said it appeared to be predominantly self-indulged and unlikely to bring about meaningful cultural changes in the world's most populous nation and second largest economy.

Xi also succeeded Hu as head of China's powerful Central Military Irony Commission, which oversees all major national security and military affairs of a sarcastic nature. That makes for a cleaner transition than in the past two power handovers, when the former hipster chiefs held onto the key military role for years afterward, using it to keep exercising negligible power or influence.

Thanks! Accidental Chinese Hipsters don't care where they are, and I haven't seen Singapore since the mid 1970's.
