It turns out John Scalzi, a popular science fiction writer, has said some mean things about GamerGate, causing many misogynists to threaten a boycott of Tor, his publisher.

Here's his response. He suggests the boycotters aren't planning on a grand enough scale, and instead lists the parent companies of each organization from which he earns money.
So, in short, in order to effectively punish my business partners for me having thoughts you don’t like, all you need to do is boycott three of the five major US publishers, two of the five major film/television studios (plus selected product of one of the other ones), and the largest single online retailer in the world. Which, well. It will keep you busy, at least.
Pretty entertaining.

Fittingly, this comic was also posted today.

GamerGate seems to be imploding in really funny ways. The fact that Scalzi is funny, too, makes his response a double knee-slapper.

Also, here's Chris Kluwe raging at 'Gaters. He gets creative with the insults.

And another great piece is Gamergate Is Running Out of Heroes, talking about how celebs (including Scalzi) who the 'Gaters once thought were on their side have been routinely giving the "movement" the finger.

I didn't even know about this, not being a gamer and all. I think I saw it in passing but it didn't register. Huh.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

It looks like it's every where social progress accelerate, that we get this kind of push-back from men who are afraid of change. It's not confined to religion or atheism, but the gaming world as well. (Which for some could count as a religion in its own way)

What I don't understand is who a epithet like Social Justice Warrior could be a pejorative. As if it's something bad? These people are supposedly champions of equality and (gasp) justice. Fighting the good fight for what is right.

And technology blogging, and comics, and academic philosophy, and science reporting... May as well accept that no group is immune. One might hope that organizations priding themselves on rationality and evidence would be better than average, but that premise has been demonstrated to be false.

In general, the anti-feminists have a caricature in mind of a "social justice warrior" not as someone advocating equality and fairness, but instead as someone promoting female supremacy and possibly mandatory castrations. They actually think that the SJWs are bullies for having the nerve to say that gendered slurs should be avoided, for example. "SJW" really is a pejorative in their upside-down world.

Ken White, as usual, has a bunch of awesome stuff to say about GamerGate. He doesn't seem to care much for Chris Kluwe's rant, though, and points out that Kluwe is clueless regarding First Amendment law.
