What a baffling award.

I'm tempted to ask how exactly this "award" improves the understanding of religion, but i'm afraid of the answer.

At least he doesn't let superstition interfere with his science.

I wonder what "religious institutions" he plans to donate a portion of his prize to.

True, but I have a feeling Dawkins has advanced spritual knowledge in the opposite direction they would have liked it to have gone.

That's correct in a sense. The scientific method is self correcting, but that's assuming scientists do their job correctly. Scientists will falsify data and results too sometimes. You know what they say about egos. But that's not like having faith in a deity though....

Apparently, having faith that the nuclear forces which hold an atom together won't suddenly disappear is the same as having faith in some supernatural deity.

Who woulda thunk?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
- Isaac Asimov
