Also, the headline of the paper that the Swedish PM is reading says:
Star-(something, probably sports-person)
arrested carrying a loaded weapon
You have that problem too? Or is just another Cincinnati Bengal...

It is a brow-raiser, because carrying firearms in Sweden is illegal with a few exceptions: while hunting (and then you must have a hunting license), and to/from the firing range (then you need a sports-gun license). You are not allowed to carry firearms for personal protection.

In the US, it varies wildly from state to state, and even county to county. In one place a concealed weapon permit (for pistols) is easy to get, awhile in another, virtually impossible. Often, they are give out by local Sheriff's, as favors to friends and supporters. Long arms are generally much less restricted, though that varies, too.

Yep around here they seem to think that shotguns are less dangerous than McDonalds coffee, at least they have fewer warnings. The scene from Bowling for Columbine where he gets a rifle for opening a bank account really says it all.

Basically it works like this, if black people take to a particular type of gun, it will become more restricted, if white people take to a particular gun it will become less restricted. If we ban it, sell it to every other country that wont/cant prevent us from flooding their market with said gun.

"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini

I remember that. I took a good few minutes before I was able to pick up my jaw from the floor.

New Zealand is closer to Sweden than the US when it comes to these things - good. I do come across the odd weapon (hunting) carrying person now and then and I must admit that I always find it a bit... I suppose creepy is the word. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
