Looks like your "pro-science" president has done it again...

quote:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska– Today the Center for Biological Diversity denounced a Bush administration directive restricting the ability of government scientists traveling abroad to discuss global warming, sea ice, and polar bears. The memo requires employees traveling in situations where these topics could arise to submit a statement of assurance that the employee understands “the administration's position on these issues,” and will not be speaking on, or responding to, questions about them.

“This is positively Orwellian,” said Kieran Suckling, policy director with the Center for Biological Diversity. “Only the worst cynic could admit the polar bear is being driven extinct by global warming, then issue a gag order to stop government scientists from talking about it.”

On December 27, 2006, the administration was forced to propose listing the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act due to a petition and subsequent lawsuit by the Center for Biological Diversity, NRDC, and Greenpeace. The proposal authored by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service scientists concluded that the Arctic is rapidly warming, causing the polar bear's sea-ice habitat to melt away. Scientific models predict that in a matter of decades, all summer ice could be gone.

Anyone else remember that petition that the Bush administration got from all those scientists a few years back because he was putting politics above science?

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I shouldn't be suprised by this crap, but each time I hear about a new attempt at silencing scientists it shocks me.

It's gotten to the point where Bush's attempts to silence science is making more waves than what the scientists are saying themselves. I sincerely hope that the Administration will continue with this policy, as it's helping its critics make their points.

An anyway, the real reason polar bears appear scarce these days in the arctic is explained here.

Maybe if we ignore the problem, it will go away?

Oh, wait.....that's what they're doing.

Who cares? After all, it's just a few bears. They were always harassing the tourists anyway.
