| Yeah daily rainbows and money tree's for everyone.
Really though we could have a Dick Cheney did this/that asshole thing thread everyday.

Nothing like a slighlty less inept congress, which doesnt have the votes to overcome a veto.

| Well, to our defense, politics per se isn't much in the "skeptic" purview. If it is, it usually has to go with government trying to force religion, and while that's been going on in the US (note the recent Supreme Court ruling about government and religious charities), it's not egregious enough (I guess) for people to write and post bout.
Other politics/government issues often make it to the "conspiracy" folder, witness all of Jerome's posts about the US being a de facto communist state, and so on.

Darth VaderCheney came to office, as reported in the Washington Post's chilling discussion ofVader, er, Cheney:The whole series more or less confirms that Cheney is an evil SOB, and I will rejoice greatly when he's gone.| In his Park Avenue corner suite at Cerberus Global Investments, Dan Quayle recalled the moment he learned how much his old job had changed. Cheney had just taken the oath of office, and Quayle paid a visit to offer advice from one vice president to another.
"I said, 'Dick, you know, you're going to be doing a lot of this international traveling, you're going to be doing all this political fundraising . . . you'll be going to the funerals,' " Quayle said in an interview earlier this year. "I mean, this is what vice presidents do. I said, 'We've all done it.' "

Cheney "got that little smile," Quayle said, and replied, "I have a different understanding with the president."

"He had the understanding with President Bush that he would be -- I'm just going to use the word 'surrogate chief of staff,' " said Quayle, whose membership on the Defense Policy Board gave him regular occasion to see Cheney privately over the following four years.

| Well, one good thing is in finally investigating some of the crookedness of the Bush White House! While there's still lots to be done, I'm happy that it's started. Does anyone think for a second that, for instance, an investigation into the DOJ's crooked hiring and firing practices would have happened under the past Congressional leadership?| Originally posted by Gorgo

Delighted that you enjoy my signature. I'd like to point out how difficult and time consuming it is to find suitable candidates, but alas, I can't. It is a pathetic comment upon human society that it can be done in minutes with almost no effort at all.

They have proven that they are useless. So afraid of being called names by republicans that they won't defund the Iraq war. Bunch of gdamn cowards.

They have also guaranteed that I won't be voting for any of them if there is any independent candidate running. A Bloomberg/Hagel ticket will get my immediate support, and the democrats can go fuck themselves. Hell, I might even vote Nader to protest, if he runs.

The only democrat who could get me to support them and vote for them in 2008 is Gore. And I doubt he will run.

I think its because of the fighting.

People, otherwise good skeptical thinkers, lose their minds when it comes to politics, and refuse to apply critical thinking and skepticism to statemets they make in this folder. It leads to a lot of nastiness.

| I don't believe that government is trying to force religion down people's throats. If anything, they are trying to become or create a new religion based on consumerism and the cult of personality. A similar thing happened during Mao's take over of China. Religion was banished, but you instead "worshiped" the words and actions of the political leaders.
I see a similar thing happening with Clinton and Gore on the left and Reagan and Bush on the right. Additionally, there private groups vying for your "worship" with like environmentalists, civil rights leaders, the NRA, the ACLU and Unions.

Next, in the past 10 years (at least) the two major political parties have grown together, both fighting for the moderate vote. It is my belief that there are more moderates in America because either people have lost "faith" in both parties, or they don't want to be judged as belonging to either. I guess its better to be labeled a cynic than a Republican these days.

This is the point I have been tying to make. You have stated such in a better manner than I.

| What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell
