Taslima Nasrin is a staunch atheist and feminist, novelist and poet from Bangladesh. Like Salmon Rushdie, she had to flee to Europe after writing a novel - "Shame" - because Islamic extremists were offended and called for her death.

Personally, I'm a huge fan, I have a signed copy of her autobiographical book "Meyebela" (Girlhood), and I even had a pet Sudan plated lizard named Taslima in her honor. I don't always agree with everything this brave, passionate, and articulate woman says and writes, but I truly admire her, and this attack disgusts and infuriates me. Thankfully she was not hurt.

Here's the article about the attack: http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/articles/0,,2145541,00.html

Looks like it was a CFI event. Their logo is in the background...

Good for Taslima Nasrin for having such courage! And good for CFI and journalists for protecting her. I think these fanatics would have killed her if they could have.

Sometimes I think the Jihadis are in a conscious competition to prove themselves the most crazed and barbaric religionists in the world. Despite strong competition, they're winning that reputation.
