Ok fellas, I'm having a little trouble with this. There is no way in hell that any religion poll taken in the US is going to be 70+ percent atheist out of 19 & some-odd thousand responses. We just ain't all that popular.

This poll's been jiggered.

Pretty funny though...

I, too, find it difficult to believe atheists are the majority. But atheists have been bullied by the theist majority for so long, they've gotten into a habit of carefully hiding their beliefs. It's possible that there are many more atheists around than have ever been accurately counted. I'd like to see a real, scientific poll. I'm betting it would produce a huge surprise.

I suspect atheism is the largest single "denomination" in America.

Kil's got it right, it's hilarius.

I will again do some drive-bys at the usual suspect's places and see if there's any comment. I rather doubt there will be, but who knows? There could be some real apoplexy waiting to be appreciated.

Well, the 4% Judaism is in line with more reliable stats from religious adherents.

Indeed! They more resemble the traditional mainline sects than Mormons do, but what do you bet Mormons are checking "Christianity".

It really pisses me off every time I see Christianity all lumped together. I think it should be broken up into at least the major sects. Something like: Catholic, Protestant, Nondenominational, Mormon, and perhaps Other. That would be a much more useful and informative poll.

Id like to see the same poll on O'rielys show...1% Atheist

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History

Well, yeah:I'm sure there are lots more, but it's only been two days so Google hasn't caught 'em all, yet. I'm pretty sure the "movement" started at Infidels, though.

And according to commenters on Pharyngula, someplace called "4chan" is largely responsible for the huge spike in atheist votes. I can't get to the site now.

Pretty funny. When did atheism become a religion? A world view or philosophical position perhaps, but a religion?
