I just received my copy of Hot Chicks, a DVD production by a group in Los Angeles. In a very fun and funky, spare-all-expenses production, they enact nine Chick Tracts, using live actors (including some female parts played by males and little girls and boys played by adults), puppetry, manikins, cardboard sets, images from the original Tracts, clips from movies such as Titanic, popular music, and hokey digital video special effects. At times, one can sense how hard it was for the actors not to burst out in laughter.

For those few of you who might not know, Chick Tracts are the most widely published line of literature in world history. Each tract is a set of cartoon drawings and text, on twenty-four 5 x 3 inch pages. Each tract is a ravingly psychotic, bigoted religious tract, written by Jack Chick.

"Hot Chicks" was an official selection of the Los Angeles film Festival. On this DVD, each of nine Chick Tracts appears to be produced separately, in its own style. A trailer can be viewed at the above site.

The scripts are directly from the Chick tracts, and the results are hilarious.

The DVD cost a $20 donation, and arrived by first class mail within a couple of days. Included for free were three real Chick Tracts, the first I've actually handled.

The Hot Chicks DVD is a wonderful fix for anyone with a love-hate addiction to Chick Tracts.
