Thompson Gives No Opinion on Schiavo

THE VILLAGES, Fla. (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson gave no opinion Thursday when asked about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep Terri Schiavo alive, saying he does not remember details of the right-to-die case that stirred national debate.

Orwellingly Yurz Sez...

Mr. Thompson is obviously suffering from the same kind of memory deficiency as former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

I dunno, Orwellingly Yurz, I don't remember the details of that case either. I am fairly certain I never knew enough details to form a valid opinion, even during the heat of media attention.

Of course, I'm not running for president.

Fred Thomson wants to be seen as wearing Reagan's mantle. He may, indeed, be ahead of a 1980, pre-election Reagan in one way. It's merely speculation my part, but Thomson may be exhibiting early signs of senile dementia.

It does seem to me that he should have remembered the basics of the Schiavo case. For months, it seemed to be the Theonazi's primary cause célèbre. He's missed a good chance to say something stupid about Schiavo and thus score some points with the fundies. Watch for other possible signs of memory loss, I'd advise.

Normally I'd ask for a link, but that's not necessary here. Fred is coming across as so wishy-washy on almost any topic you might present him that his opinion, or lack thereof, of the Schiavo obscenity is no more than business as usual.

As 'Mooner stated/asked; how could anyone forget Schiavo? There was a very heated thread or two in here, and all over the country the fundies were squealing about a corpse's right to life.

It's early yet, but how, at this point, can anyone consider this guy as anything like qualified for the Presidency? I don't think he's going senile, but trying to cover his ass for past actions and remarks with silence. I think a little digging might reveal a very different Fred than the one he's trying to show us.

Thanks for enticing me to look into this, Fil.

Ol' Fred has an interesting history, indeed. Note that while working as a Watergate prosecutor, Fred was also working as Nixon's spy in Congress, letting him know what Congress knew. He's also been far from the consistent Right-to-Lifer he portrays himself as, having lobbied for a pro-abortion group, then lied about it. Consistently a backstabber by inclination. So it could indeed be that his forgetfulness is more of the Gonzales type than the Alzheimer's variety.
