The ancient tradition of "quote mining" has recently been a matter of discussion in some of the more boring fora here at SFN. This has led me to think, "Why not do a little prospecting, myself?"

Here are some of the gems I've uncovered, using standard quote mining techniques, but adding actual links to the mined quotations.

From Kent Hovind:
". . . I . . . always have a cover story, of course . . . knew full well Pearl Harbour was going to be bombed . . . wanted that to bring us into the war. So I . . . wanted very much something like 9-11. Whether those specific buildings or not, I don't know. A lot of shady stuff, like the buildings, I . . . sold or something or insurance policies taken out, you know, just a few weeks before that. Buildings that hold 50,000 . . . killed. Lot of folks were told . . . to come to work . . . knew what was going on."
"I'm going to be . . . Satan in charge. Period. That's the goal."

From Bill Dembski:
"The job . . . is to clear the ground, to prevent . . . the . . . coming . . . of Christ," Dembski said. "And . . . I . . . blocked . . . Christ [and] the free reign of the Spirit and people . . . It's important . . . in the world."
From our vantage, materialism is . . . a neutral, value-free, minimalist position from which to pursue inquiry. . . it is itself an ideology with . . . more, it requires . . . evolutionary . . . scientific grounds. . . we regard . . . it to be . . . rational discourse. Our concerns are therefore entirely . . . the evolutionists'. Indeed, all . . . have, in our view, already been realized through the success of materialism and evolution . . . as a strategy for . . . materialism and evolution . . ."
"Intelligent design is eminently fals...e . . . and . . . systems like the bacterial flagellum that are wonderfully complex, elegant, and integrated . . . have been formed by a gradual Darwinian process . . . that . . . doesn't invoke intelligent causes when purely natural causes will do. . . . Occam's razor finishes off intelligent design quite nicely."
". . . Muslim . . . wisdom created the world. The origin of the world and its subsequent ordering thus results from . . . Naturalism . . ., except . . . a blind, purposeless . . . God. Rather . . . an accident of natural history."
". . .[S]eriously . . ., any view of the sciences . . . leaves Christ out of the picture. . ."

Hilarious, but Removing letters in the middle of the word is cheating

That's why I had to post it in Moonscape, where cheating is almost mandatory. Besides, without what I consider legitimate "internal ellipses," it would be almost impossible to force some of those quotes to say what I wanted them to. Without using undue force, that is.

And thank you, by the way!

Then there's William Donohue, head of the Catholic League:
"I will stake my reputation on it right now! People will be paralyzed. . . They . . . will bring people back to the church, and . . . boy, are they going to have to pay for it when it's all over!"
And:
"After all, 15-year-olds, . . . get . . . killed without parental consent. . . They like gay sex. They like . . . stuff like that. . . I don't . . . have no problems when it comes to sodomy. It's smoking . . . like . . . Catholicism."
"Well, first . . . it [The Passion of the Christ] was anti-Semitic. That did... work. Then . . . it was too violent. That did... work. Then . . . it was S & M. That did... work. Then . . . it was pornography. That did... work. Now . . . it's fascistic queer-bashing. That kind of language would ordinarily get somebody taken away in a straitjacket and -- put you in the asylum. I . . . know what . . . queer-bashing is all about. I'm pretty good about . . . queers. . ."
