Folks, our forums got hacked a little last Sunday. Some of you may even have noticed.

Someone managed to make himself an administrator, and then added a "trojan horse" program to our main forums page.

We've undone the changes, and fixed our software so that the same trick can't be pulled again.

However, if you visited our main forum page between about 2 PM on Sunday, December 9th and 9 AM on Monday, December 10th, and you are using a version of Internet Explorer that hasn't been patched with Microsoft's security upgrades since October of 2006, and your antivirus software is way out-of-date, you may have received the trojan "VBS/Psyme" and perhaps whatever it happens to try to load onto your machine these days.

No passwords, email addresses or other personal information was examined by the interloper.

Was that what broke the url links for a time? And if I'm using Firefox, should I be ok?

Yes, that's what broke the URLs, the hacker turned forum code OFF.

From what I can tell from the description of VBS/Psyme, it uses a very old security hole in Internet Explorer to do its dirtywork, so Firefox users should be fine. If your antivirus software hasn't alerted on anything, then you shouldn't worry.

Can't we hang him up by his feet, and we can play piņata instead.

While trying to investigate the little rat bastard, he managed to screw up my system by downloading a keylogger on my computer. The attempt failed, but left my registry setting all whacked out. CTRL+Alt+Del wouldn't work anymore...

Hang him by the feet -- I like it; he'll stay concious longer as he goes into traumatic shock whilst being savagly beaten to death prior to the molton wheel weights.

I don't understand; what inspires people to commit this sort of pointless and often expensive vandalism? Hell, if it were personal, I could see some rhyme & reason for it, but it's not even that -- it's unlikely that this creep is aquainted with any of us (a state of affairs I'd like to radically alter).

I don't know how to find someone from an IP address but I'll bet that my son-in-law does. And then, the kneecapping can begin....
