In addition to what Humbert said (about why conservatives hate Hillary), I will add some reasons why many liberals, such as myself, do not like her:

Bill Clinton won his first term largely because of his talk about universal health care, and when he became president he put Hillary in charge. She failed, not because of her own strong efforts, intelligence, and competence, but because the Republican powers-that-be united and ran an all-out attack on the whole idea of socialized medicine. The legacy of the success of their PR campaign lives still today, where even people who are barely making a living and have inadequate health insurance will defend the privatized system and are very leery of deeper government involvement with providing health care for all citizens. Anyway, Hillary Clinton learned something in that experience. She learned that in American two-party politics, if you say you will take certain strong actions, and then try to do so, your enemies will put all their efforts into clobbering you. Since then she has become quite the moderate Democrat, falling neatly in-line with pro-corporate compromisers. As Kil has brought up before, she co-sponsored a bill to ban flag burning. She voted for the war and has consistently voted to fund it. She employs conservative rhetoric into her language. Basically, liberals like me don't know what her values are anymore. I imagine that she does have strong principles and that all this compromising and moving to the center is part of a grand plan to be able to get at the things she really cares about by compromising a lot on other matters. But since I don't know what those principles are, or whether they are somewhat in line with my own, and since in her Presidential campaign she never says anything of real substance, I cringe at the idea of voting for her.

What a seriously fucked-up situation...

I don't envy you guys, who have to live with whatever president you elect. You have the historic chance of putting the first woman in office, but even if you managed to get more working class people to the election-booth (including possibly many single mothers who usually don't bother voting) they are so brainwashed there is a great chance they will vote for the "wrong" candidate.

And even if you get "your" choice of candidate elected, he/she would still have to compromise on his/her conviction in order to not get hammered down by republican-funded PR smear campaign.
