LOL

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Thanks, Kil! (I was afraid I was getting a red-hued warning.)

Mooner, you barely escaped the Red Death by a few square inches of flimsy blouse! Another tug by that ham-handed hominid would surely have revealed the deadly pink of aureolis obscenicus, and the emergence of a nipplicus nauticus would certainly have sent the legions of pubescent voyeurs who peruse SFN avidly for its pornographic content into orgasmic self destruction (or at least, abuse)!

But fortunately for your flawless record of purity postings on the forum, the prurient Gorilla beringei beringei either did not find what he was looking for, or else was stopped cold by the lady's neck ornament which is a mere crux ordinaria sans corpus and not a true crucifix! No true Christian girl would wear a twelve pound gold cross with a diamond set at the nexus of the vertical and horizontal bars! Trashy Hollywood bling! She is obviously a mere shiksa and not a real Christian girl who would have Christ on the cross between her boobs!

So Kong is not only aroused, he is enraged! Coitus preventicus! No consumation is nigh, as she is not Christian enough to satisfy his pagan lust for True Believers! And, by the few remaining threads of her tattered blouse, enough of her tantalizing bosom remains covered to keep your thread from Red Banishment to the image trashcan of SFN's What Might Have Been; there to lie heaped ignominiously on top of The Hottie Hitchiker, and Romney-Huck-McCain packaged with She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Anyway, every few days I look at Betty Boopsie down there in South Beach and I am thankful that Big Brother remains, at least for the present, Little Brother, here at SFN!

Thanks -- I think -- bngbuck! I must correct you: I do not have a flawless record here, having been warned almost as many times as the dreaded Gnome. And yet -- the Powers have made me one of them, because I always, like it or not submit to their collective will.

If there's a lesson here, I don't know WTF it is. Maybe they like folks who can't figure out their underlying logic, but obey nonetheless?

Mooner, y'know, that's the way of all the pow'rs that be in the whole fucking universe! Starts with God, of course. Try pissing him off! No way Jay, submit or you're shit! Then there's Government, Bush style - go a little apolitically correct; the FBI, CIA, IRS, Secretservice, and US Army show up on your doorstep with AK-47's! Call a cop a cocksucker and you're on the floor with two Taser darts in your ass! Step over the PC prig line in a Forum and your two hours of image manipulation and wordsmithing are eradicated in blink of an eye and the sniff of a blue nose!

When any PTB owns the game and the turf it's played on, you submit or you don't play in their game.

The only way you successfully defy any parochial Categorical Imperative that...."Thou Kan't do (fill in the blank)"!, is by acquiring more power than the local PTB.

With God, you disbelieve Him. Voila, no more dictates from God! With Bush, you enlist enough collective balls to impeach the SOB (which I don't think the wusses Pelosi and Reid would do if they had a 100% House and Senate!) With cops, you pay off the boss cop - just like in the Godfather! In a Forum you.....well you cope! And hope! In the meantime, you use a paraphrase and a trope!

And if you really get pissed off, you buy the damn thing or start your own! This also works for any big company you've got a beef with, like General Motors! Takes some real change, tho'.

I kid, but one thing I do realize is that an effective forum needs to have rules to keep it from chaos. And setting those rules is just the start, as someone (usually, many someones), for good, bad, and indifferent reasons, will try to stretch the definitions of those rules, while others will simply break them.

The nearly impossible trick, in a site that tries to be an open forum, is to balance the need for structure with the need for free expression. There are always just too many subjective gray areas for this to work perfectly, but I do think the Admins (and my fellow Mods) here at Skeptic Friends Network do about as well as anyone does.

Anyway, they can't be impeached.

Mooner.....

The nearly impossible trick, in a site that tries to be an open forum, is to balance the need for structure with the need for free expression. Yep, it is a tough and thankless job, and frequently you are damned if you do and cursed if you don't! If it was a publicly owned enterprise, the vox populi should be the final arbiter of what is and isn't allowable. But it is a private enterprise, and, properly, different rules apply. In general, D&K should be able to have any kind of Forum they want strictly for their personal preferences. In fact however, they are remarkably open to criticism from the membership.

I'm not exactly the most admired or pleasant fellow around here, but a few months ago, my complaints about childish, obscene personal attacks by one member upon another being destructive to the entire enterprise were heard and the matter was properly addressed. (There were many others speaking up on this, and I sure D&K were starting to feel that way long before I or anyone complained)

I personally feel that there should be a place for all the members' opinions of moderation and troll banning, etc., to factor in the administrators and moderators decisions. Ideally, major administrative decisions such as banning should be polled (one member, one vote) and the poll results at least considered, before action is taken.

But this is not incumbent upon the owners and operators of a private enterprise in our free enterprise society! There are a lot of prerogatives inherent in private property!

I would place a small bet that if the membership had been polled prior to Jerome's permanent banning, somewhere between 50 and 70 percent would have voted for banning. I very well may be wrong, as I said before, I was not around for much of the essentially senseless comment and pure provocation that he dumped on the table. I think a vote would be illuminating, tho'!

I feel that way about myself. There are several old regulars that would pleased to see my departure from these boards. There are administrators and owners here that are seriously concerned with my impertinence and lack of respect for damn near anything. I may well be more trouble than this forum needs!

I have suggested to Dave elsewhere that he determine statistically if anyone reads my remarks and/or thinks SFN would benefit from my departure. The latter would require a poll, and I really don't know if Dave would care what such a poll might reveal about me, or anyone else that might be in such question. And that certainly is within his vested authority which he wields remarkably well!

Anyway, your remarks are well taken and I'm sure you recognize jest when you see it, as you ply the skill well!
