The ID crowd sometimes claim that certain research papers are, in fact, examples of Intelligent Design research, even though the papers never make that claim. At uncommondescent, we have, yet again, such a claim. The paper in question was published in Nature and involved the creation of novel active sites in some enzymes. I think that commenter "RRE" sums up the ID reasoning at the basis of the ID claim:
DESIGN DETECTION IS IMPLICIT - THIS ARTICLE IS PROOF THAT INTELLIGENT CAUSES CAN PRODUCE NOVEL ENZYMES AND ACTIVE SITES.

What the ID crowd seems to fail to realise is that it does not matter one iota whether or not humans can do anything. ID allows for ANY kind of designer - even supernatural, omnipotent ones. According to ID, then, there is no need for " PROOF THAT INTELLIGENT CAUSES CAN PRODUCE NOVEL ENZYMES AND ACTIVE SITES". What "RRE" should have written is that the article is "proof that HUMANS can..." and that the paper supports the notion that the designer of SOME of the complexities of life could have been human... or human-like... And that's not really why ID was conceived in the first place, was it?

Ugh. I can't even read the comments at ID anymore. They make me want to vomit. That there are people out there who really buy their crap is quite distressing.

All the people are Uncommon Descent are crowing about is the unsurprising fact that humans can be designers. Whoop de doo. Anthropologists have known this for centuries. And this is evidence for supernatural designers how?

It isn't.

I have this sneaking hunch that hardly any of the following of the ID Creationists actually believe that crap. I think they are merely putting on a pious face and pretending to believe -- while perhaps trying to convince themselves for their souls' -- or their personal social relationships' -- sake.

On the other hand, I suspect that a greater portion of Ken Ham's even more knuckle-dragging YEC followers really "believe" Ham's explanations of Genesis (though few actually understand the verses themselves).

I really do think, though, that most IDiots are like the courtiers and populace in the tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes." They know he's bare-assed naked, but will be damned if they are the first to mention the fact.

This is what they do in place of research, Hawks. They take an event or a writing, give it a twist, and foist it off on everyone else who'll listen and not snicker at it. Uncommon Descent is the Fox Nooze of Creationism.

At least Ham has some pretty good writers in his little sty. I rather like reading them.
