Well, no good architect could stand to build the same cookie-cutter houses for a whole career.

That's pretty remarkable and it shows well something I've been ranting about for years (oh gawd, here we go again! ). An amphibian's skin has remarkable absorption properties, as can be seen in this frog and lung-less salamanders. Even terrestrial species such as toads get their water through their skins, often from no more than absorbing dew. This can work both ways, an estivating amphibian, if it is for an extended period, must protect itself from water loss, and some do this by covering themselves with mucus and layers of dead skin.

In short, the skins of amphibians are capable of rapid absorption of just about any, old crap that comes along. This makes them what is called an 'indicator' species -- if the amphibian populations are robust, all other species are likely in good, environmental shape as well.

Amphibian populations world-wide are currently in decline and have been for some decades. And what does that tell us, hmm?

One might think so at first blush. It looks pretty likely, but precise studies have shown that frogs are exothermic, so the temperature of their breath & bodies can not be more than ambient, even after a bug & bean burrito with green chili salsa.

If Al Gore wasn't so busy flying around in his gold plated private jet planes while showing up in cameos on Futurama, he would have already done something about this. Somebody should say something to him, for the children's sake.

I bet he suggests a world wide tax on frog legs.

Hey It's not our fault that the frogs didnt invest in research for a cure for the Bufos.
