Well, it's official: I knocked up my woman. We're due in late September (do the math: it's a New Year's Baby).

All doubts about the skill with which I'll wield my parenthood aside, this is awesome!

Are you kidding? I love the idea. A kid who is someone else's problem but I get to spoil rotten? How perfect is that?

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

And all you got to do is teach him how to fetch.

Congratulations boron! And good thing you didn't announce this 10 days ago.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

We have a doctor's appointment on the 17th, and we'll probably find out if it's a boy or a girl (or an alien or maybe even twins!) I'll let y'all know what we come up with.

Congratulations!

I second Val, make as many donations as you can to the sleep bank . I'll warn you though, the interest is lousy.

I'd also suggest working on some technology to slow down this rapid temporal positive feedback loop we're experiencing. My daughter turns 4 today. It certainly doesn't seem like that long ago we brought her home. I'm sure it was February when I got up this morning. Damn, how the time flies.

John's just this guy, you know.
