This, and the few posts before it.
I just can't believe the moral hypocrosy here.
Well, for what it's worth, here's my reply:
I don't have much time Jason, so I'll say this: How many sting operations have there been in which the officers had standing orders to kill babies?
You keep going on and on about how "perfect" and "just" your god is, yet you're defending actions that people find morally appalling.
It's not an "argument from outrage". It's being morally consistent.
What would your god have to do in order for you to say that he did something wrong?
If there is nothing that he can do that would be wrong in your eyes, then it's easy for him to be "holy" and "perfect". It's not that he doesn't do stuff that's considered sinful; he's just allowed to do whatever he wants.
By your reasoning, he could kill your baby and you'd still call that just. |
I forgot: the "argument from outrage" only works if the bible didn't make any statements regarding how "moral" your god was.
That way, we'd have no way to tell whether his behavour was consistent with the claim of his holy book.
That, and if the "argument from outrage" was used by itself as proof against the existence of your god. It's just used to refute one of the claims the bible makes about him. |

| ignored, why do you even talk to those people? They are idiots. They think Stalin committed the great purges because of atheism. And they don't even bother getting simple facts staight (Stalin and Lenin didn't kill "tens of millions" of people.) Morons who will repeat or make up whatever supports their primitive little ideology are not worth your time. In the political arena, when they are trying to subvert our rights, well yes, but not on a damn web forum. |

I do it for the fence-sitters who may read that stuff. It's the people on the street who give the religious right their power.
By the way, it seems that since he's dealt with the porno spammer at least for now, more reasonable comments can get in.

And I mentioned that Lysenko's so-called biology was responsible for crop failures which starved at least some of those millions of victims. I wonder why Jason hasn't let that short note through? |

Well, I posted a variation of it, I hope you don't mind.
Jason, your comment about Stalin and his victims could just as well be applied to anti-evolutionists, since Stalin was one of them, too.
Stalin did what he did not because any "atheist" credo told him to, but for power. Just as has been done for centuries before.
The thing is, in his time there's far more people and far more efficient weapons available to use against them.
That's something theists <b>never</b> seem to account for when complaining about the <b>numbers</b> of people killed "because of" atheism.
Perhaps you should look at how long the time periods were in which such "motivational" killings occurred. Religious killings in europe and then in north america lasted for centuries!
Something else you should be made aware of: <b>There is no holy book in athiesm that tells us what to do</b>. That is, there is no book out that that has a set of definitions and rules to follow in order to be an athiest, as there is for christians and muslims, etc.
There is most certainly <b>no atheism holy book</b> that tells us to kill those who don't follow atheism. So your claim that those people were killed "due to" atheism is bull.
There <b>are</b> such commands in the bible and the koran, however. Do the people of those religions accept any responsibility for that?
One other thing: at least some of the people killed under Stalin was due to the soviets trying to implement Lysenko's messed-up biology which led to crop failures which starved at least some of those millions of victims.
That was bad planning, inaccurate science, not deliberate murders. |
