Hi all,
The critically acclaimed skeptic comic book, "Dr. DeBunko," is now available FOR FREE as a PDF download at:

Michael Shermer called it "The coolest, hippest thing to hit skepticism since Lisa Simpson began reading Junior Skeptic magazine (when Homer had his alien abduction experience)."
Wowio.com is an online bookstore who distributes books for free, but has advertisers who pay creators for each download. What a nice easy FUN way to enjoy and spread the Skeptic message!

Can't. I'm in Canada, and wowio will only work for those who live in the states. Sounds good, though.

ig.... PROXY SERVER!
Just find a anon proxy based in the US, plug in the IP, then go to the wowio site.
This is how you can watch BBC shows on the BBC website (like Dr Who) weeks before they air in the US, assuming you don't just download them with some p2p client.
in IE click tools/internet options click connections tab then LAN settings. Check the proxy server box, paste in the IP and port #, click OK.
To find a free anon proxy, just google for "free proxy server". You'll get a couple dozen lists.

Can't. Proxies don't seem to work with my wirelss connection. I am NEVER able to get into the sites, even when I shut down my firewall. No matter how many proxies I try, or whether I'm using Opera or IE, I'm never able to get through.
I remember not having this problem when I had normal high-speed internet. I couldn't even submit this reply until I turned my proxy off.
I'm hoping that the reason is this: About free proxy servers, with it having a low percent of functioning servers due to hosting restrictions on CPU time, but at least ONE should be working when I try it...I suspect it's because I don't have my own bloody modem anymore. I probably can't make changes on my browser tools that the modem will "accept" or something?
Back to experimenting. |

Well, I've gotten in, finally. I'm using a trial version of "Anonymizer" to do it, though now the Wowio site is asking for more crap. It won't accept "hotmail" or "yahoo" emails and I don't use credit cards. Screw it, I'm not scanning my bloody license to them.
Maybe I can find a "non-anonymous" email address?

Nope, it can only be done through an internet provider, and I'm not on the name of the net account here.
Ah well, I'll just assume the book's good, and leave it at that. |

Are you using a wifi card on someone elses wireless network? Depends how they have it configured, but you should still be able to use a proxy server.
Did you check the box to bypass the proxy for local addresses?

Yep, I did. Only with that crap I downloaded was I able to get on, but then the Wowio people want an "non-anonymous email" in order to set up an account. I don't have one. I tried to get one through my freeservers site, but they seem to have some trouble with it.
So, screw it. I'm not going to bother. |
