Most banks are very strict when it comes to applying for a loan. They will give you a hundred (exaggerating) of requirements before you can apply plus, will do background investigation. We just wanted to do a house renovation and we would only be needing like 8,000 usd. Would this be considered as a housing loan? If it is, I think we'll have to undergo a long process and will have to submit a lot of requirements. What could be other types of loan that we can apply for?

In my experience its quite difficult to apply a home loan to banks. It takes a long time to do so and lots of supporting documents to submit. Unlike in a credit union because they are nonprofit, cooperative business model and they can offer low interest and flexible terms compared to banks. Its easy to get any types of loan especially if you have a history of a good credit standing.

Hi there. Thanks for posting!
A friend recommended that I get a personal loan instead and following both of your advice, I checked the credit union near us. They offer a really good rate for their personal loans so I'm going with that. Now, I just need to check if I have all the requirements.
