Now that I have your attention (yes I know that Darwin made no such confession), I would like to ask people's opinion on that topic. Most creationist and other fundie sites seem to acknowledge that such a thing never occurred, but being the cynical bastard that I am I have trouble giving them credit for honesty.
I believe that if they carried on telling people that Darwin made such a confession that it would be harder, if not theologically impossible, to demonize the man along with his theory. By dropping the spurious claim, they are free to paint him as an agent of satan at worst, or a heathen anti-christian at best.
